VBAC

Well, I didn't leave the OB jumping for joy...

When I first walked in I had a good feelings right away about the office . It just seemed more calming. However, there was a little misunderstanding with insurance that gave me a rocky start. I met with a younger female OB (office has midwives, two female OBs, and one male). We had a pretty good conversation about my situation, and she instantly said I would be a good candidate for a VBAC (thumbs up). Everyone in there office supports and encourages VBACs. When I asked what their success rate was, she said she thought about 80%, but she wasn't positive. They require CFM, but have battery powered monitors and patients are allowed to go in the tub, walk around, try many positions, etc. (I appreciated that, but not too excited about CFM- however, I feel like this might be pretty common). They will induce for VBACs (good, right?), but I didn't get into specifics about how they felt about going past 40 weeks. She did mention that they have some requirements of the labor that they wouldn't for a non-VBAC mom... for example the labor needs to progress steadily, baby's heart rate, etc. (this made me feel a little stressed). Overall it was a really nice conversation, but I didn't leave the office jumping for joy. I liked her honest approach, how she sat, listened, talked, and took notes, and she did compliment my preparedness (we are planning to ttc this summer). I stopped taking my pill last night... we'll see, I guess!

  • I think that it sounds like she is supportive and honest, which is important.  I think it's good to have a provider on the middle ground between being conservative and doing what is most medically sound, and being liberal and being too focused on having a successful vbac at excessive or unnecessary risk.  Good luck with the practice!
