Hi there lovelies!
I'm probably going to come off as clueless & lets face it - I am. My husband and I are expecting our first baby and are leaning towards the whole cloth diapering idea. I and my 2 brothers were cloth diapered and it's way more environmentally & monetarily friendly. The only problem is that I have no idea where to start, what I'm supposed to do or rather how this whole thing is supposed to work? I would ask my mother, but she's not exactly accessible. I can and have found a number of things online about recommended CDs, but I am still at a loss for the sheer mechanics of it. More over, we will have to eventually put our lovely bundle into daycare. I have already talked to them to find out if they'd be even willing to accept a baby with cloth diapers. Luckily, they are more than happy to accommodate our request and have washers & dryers on site. Only, they are like us and have no prior experience with CDs so I can't really use them as a resource for the info gathering part.
So I guess my questions really are...
What am I supposed to do with the diaper after baby does their business? Should I just rinse as necessary and toss it in the washer until the end of the day and then hit start?
And... Is there anyone out there that could help me or give me ideas about CDing in daycare or on vacation?
Any help is much appreciated!! TYIA!
Re: Please fill me in...
Hello! Yay for considering CDs!!! They rule. They are adorable. They work better than disposables (in my humble opinion) and they are totally easy.
You can find lots of good info here: https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/ShowThread.aspx?PostID=48640290#48640290

The biggest take away message is that a lot of it comes down to personal preference. There is no ONE BEST diaper. (Which is great, but also annoying, b/c I totally understand the desire for someone to just give me the right answer, for crying out loud!!!)
I would start with the FAQ at the top of the board. It gives a good overview and a lot of great resources.
As to your questions:
Set up either a hanging wetbag or a diaper pail in your nursery or bathroom. Once you change the baby, you can put diapers in there until full, then wash. Aim to have enough diapers to wash every 2-3 days. Until the baby starts solids, you don't need to rinse anything. You just toss everything in the wash and it all washes out.
For daycare, you'll want a DCP-friendly option like prestuffed pockets or all-in-ones. That way they can just take off the soiled/wet diaper, put it in a wetbag to send home with you, and put a fresh one on. No fancy mechanics necessary.
For travel, we cave and use disposables, mostly because our trips involve places without access to a washer/dryer. We're heading out to see family next month and will use CDs for that trip, because we'll have laundry access and 2 other CDing mommas.
GL and keep asking questions. It took me a couple of months of lurking to get really comfortable with the idea.
