Re: Sleeping poll
1. LO has been sleeping with us the past two days because he is so uncomfortable that he wakes up crying so I have to soothe him back to sleep a lot otherwise he sleeps in his Cradle n' Sway swing- which is also where he naps.
2. Naps for 3 hours at a time and he has been sleeping for for roughly 5 hours every time for the past two days (cross fingers that it continues!)
3. We used to swaddle but the halo sleep sack would bunch up by his face so we just use a blanket.
4. DS has trouble sleeping due to reflux and gas issues but before that he was fine. He has to be inclined in order to sleep so if we either prop him up if he sleeps with us otherwise the swing has him sitting more upright. He is on Prilosec right now.
My LO sleeps in his rock and play overnight. He also naps there when he isn't sleeping on me or dh.
During the day he sleeps for 3-4 hours at a time and at night it is 5-6 hours at a time.
We only swaddle for night time. He doesn't seem to mind not swaddling but he does sleep better when he is swaddled.
We did have trouble with his sleeping. We started out using out pack and play bassinet. He would sleep but it wasnt very restful. He would kick, grunt, and make all sorts of noises and it would keep us up because at every peep, we would want to check on him. About three weeks ago, I bought the rock and play. He sleeps in that and he loves it so much better. He doesn't make a sound in it. He sleeps so much better and so do we! I would give my left arm for that rock and play. It will be the baby shower gift I buy for every shower I go to now!
1. Where does your LO sleep overnight? In his Rock n play sleeper. We had a bassinet and he hated it, he loves the RNP. During the day! In his little lamb swing, bouncy seat or the bassinet that vibrates in the pack n play.
2. How long do they sleep? At night, he usually sleeps one 5 hour block, and then a 3 hour block. So like 10pm-3am and then 4am-6/7am. During the day he usually naps 3-4 hours in the morning like 9am-12pm and then at night like 5-8pm and then sometimes some short 30 minute naps mid day.
3. Do you swaddle? Yes, usually only at night time sleeping time of 10pm-3am he is usually in a swaddler me, or in pjs and then the aden & anias swaddle blanket. If so, for what times? Just naps or every time they sleep? We do not swaddle for naps.
4. Are you having trouble with your LO sleeping? What is/was the issue and how did you/are you fixing it? No thank god! He was having some sleeping issues around his 3 week growth spurt which was him up and screaming from 3-6am off and on and it was terrible!!
Happiest baby on the block's 5 S's technique saved us through that time and for the most part he has the same sleeping patterns every night and day now. Of coarse there is those random days and nights where he is up an extra time to eat, or has gas, or those days when he doesn't take his morning nap, etc but for the most part he is pretty predictable at 7 weeks.
1. She sleeps in bed with us overnight. We didn't go into this intending to co-sleep, but found it to be so convenient. Maybe we should invest in a RNP, since you all are raving about it so much for nighttime sleeping! During the day she sleeps in her pack n play bassinet, the nap nanny, in her boppy, or on me.
2. Overnight she sleeps for 3.5 hour stretches, waking 2-3 times throughout the night to eat. Her naps are usually 2 hours.
3. No, she hates swaddling and it gets her really worked up when we try to pin her arms down to get them in the swaddle, so we've taken a break from trying.
4. We haven't really had any major issues. The past few nights she's been fussy when we try to get her to sleep, and she fusses/cries for about an hour and a half. So we've been moving her bedtime up each night, so by the time she's finally asleep, it's still a reasonable time for us to go to sleep ourselves.
LO sleeps in her bassinet in her own room. We still have not put her in her crib because her bassinet is elevated for her acid reflux. We move her bassinet around during the day. Right now we are in the living room. But usually she is in her room sleeping.
She sleeps usually from 8pm to between 3 or 5 am. Then from then to about 9am. During the day she sleeps only an hour or so at a time. But right now she is going on 2 hours. Whoo hoo!!!
We only swaddle at night because she sleeps better that way.
We are not having any problems with her sleeping. We did before, so we upped her food intake by half an ounce and that seemed to help a lot. We also give her a bath with lavender body wash and that really calms her down.
1. Where does your LO sleep overnight? During the day! In her co-sleeper next to our bed
2. How long do they sleep? The max she's slept at once was 4.5 hours. I'd say 3 hours is about average for her.
3. Do you swaddle? If so, for what times? Just naps or everytime they sleep? We swaddle her at night, sometimes. She does sleep better that way...I'm starting to hope for STTN so I'm probably going to start doing it every night. Before I'd get worried if she didn't wake up in the night but her weight gain is good so I'm over that!
4. Are you having trouble with your LO sleeping? What is/was the issue and how did you/are you fixing it? I was actually extremely stressed because she sleeps SO MUCH. Her average is about 18 hours a day. She was hospitalized with what we presume was a bacterial infection from day 4-13 of her life and I was scared to death it caused some kind of brain damage that was causing her to be so sleepy. Her pediatrician had us go to a pediatric neurologist just in case. The appointment was yesterday and the neuro examined her, talked to us, and deemed her perfectly fine, so I feel better now.
Other than that...I'm finding she needs to be swaddled or otherwise comfy-cozy to sleep longer at night. She's also become a pacifier addict so she needs that to fall asleep. When it's all said and done, she's a very good baby and I don't have much to complain about in the way of sleeping.
1. DS has been in his crib since night 1 home. He sleeps there every night. During the day sometimes he sleeps in his bouncer or his car seat if I am running errands but other than that he sleeps in his crib.
2. He sleeps for 3-5 hours, usually he has one nap that is 5 hours long and usually he has one time in the evening that he sleeps for 5 hours after his 5 hour stretch he then does a 4 hour then a 3 hour and then we are up for the morning.
3. We haven't swaddled him since he was about 2 weeks old. We just didn't see the point any more, we were starting to do it looser and looser because that was what made him happy then finally it was just time to remove it all together.
4. We had some trouble the first week with him having a random awake time in the middle of the night. At first we held him and just let him be awake on our chest, then after 2 weeks we started letting him cry a little bit and then we would go hold him at about 3 weeks we just let him CIO and he hasn't had a midnight awake time since. He is ready for "dinner" at 7 and in bed by 730 and doesn't wake up for the morning until 7
1. Where does your LO sleep overnight? He gets put down in his PnP in our bedroom at night and sleeps there until his first middle of the night feed. I bring him into bed and nurse him while I sleep and he spends the rest of the night co-sleeping. During the day? In his swing or sometimes in his PnP
2. How long do they sleep? Overall night sleep is from 8 until 6:30. He wakes up to eat at first anywhere from 11:30p to 2:30a, it's all over the place. Sometimes he does just 2 feeds through the night with 4 hour stretches between, sometimes he's eating every 2 hours.
3. Do you swaddle? If so, for what times? Just naps or everytime they sleep? Yes, definitely swaddle. I swaddle him whenever he gets extremely fussy to help calm him down. Most naps he's swaddled unless he was so zonked after nursing that he doesn't need a swaddle. At nights I do the "escape proof swaddle" (as seen on youtube)
4. Are you having trouble with your LO sleeping? What is/was the issue and how did you/are you fixing it? Nope, none yet.
A possibility was born the day you were born and will live as long as you live.
1. Sometimes LO sleeps in his sidecar crib, sometimes he sleeps with us. Each time he goes to sleep its like a guessing game trying to figure out where will be the best spot for him at that time. During the day he either sleeps lounging on his Boppy next to me or in his carseat (he goes to work with me and the school bus ALWAYS puts him to sleep).
2. During the day he is only allowed to sleep for two hours at a time. At night he sleeps for three to four hours.
3. We swaddle for most naps and nighttime. If he falls asleep on his own and is "out" during the day I won't swaddle him. At night however, I try not to let him fall asleep without being swaddled.
4. He had his days and night seriously mixed up. He would fuss and cry from 1:30 to 5 or 6AM every single night. Yesterday, I kept him up as much and for as long as possible (which made for a VERY fussy day) but it also seemed to fix his day/night issue. I think the fact that he was swaddled and that I dream fed him at his 1:30 waking helped him sleep. I am nervous to see if tonight can be as glorious as last night...

1. Where does your LO sleep overnight? During the day! In the PnP overnights, and PnP or the bouncer for naps
2. How long do they sleep? nights we get 2- 6 hour spans. Lots of awake time in the AM, then cat naps throughout the afternoon, then down around 8ish for overnight sleep spans
3. Do you swaddle? If so, for what times? Just naps or everytime they sleep? I swaddle most the time, full swaddle for overnites, and arms out for naps usually, unless he is in the bouncer, then no swaddle
4. Are you having trouble with your LO sleeping? What is/was the issue and how did you/are you fixing it? the cat naps are killing me, but I'm not trying to fix that, I am very happy with hos night sleep pattern.
1. Overnight he sleeps in either his bassinet or little rock n play. During the day - either in the rock n play, swing or in his crib. I give him one nap a day on his tummy because it helps him get out a ton of gas. He farts the entire 2 hours.
2. During the day about 2 hour naps and at night between 2-3 hours.
3. No swaddle, he hates it.
4. He's wide awake from 4am-7am - I'm really working on it. Last night I was so tired I made him a bottle of formula - which I would have NEVER done with DD. It worked. He slept another 3 hours.
1. Where does your LO sleep overnight? in bed on or next to me
During the day? on me or on the couch next to me. sometimes shorter periods in rnp, but will typically wake up quick if not held.
2. How long do they sleep? her sleeping habits are all over the place. typically (if that exists): at night from 9-5 with two or three feeding times, a morning "nap" for one to three hours, an afternoon nap for one to three hours, and an evening nap for one to three hours.
3. Do you swaddle? sometimes
If so, for what times? just if she's super fussy. it doesn't really help, but it makes us feel like we're doing something. she always breaks free.
Just naps or everytime they sleep? really only at night
4. Are you having trouble with your LO sleeping? yes and no
What is/was the issue and how did you/are you fixing it? the biggest issues are that she wakes up super quick if not held or if laid on her back. we are doing all we can except letting her cio.
1. We started out in the crib for the first two nights, but then she started to hate it all of a sudden and wasn't sleeping too soundly in it. We switched to the bassinet in her pack and play.
During the day, she sleeps in her My Little Lamb seat or occasionally the Boppy.
2. Sleep at night is anywhere from 2 1/2 hours to a couple of times when we've gotten 4-5 hour stretches. We start nighttime routines at 9 each night - do a diaper change and last feed. As long as she's not fussy (usually 4 out of 7 nights) then she's asleep by 10. We'll be up another 3-4 times during the night for bottles between 10 and 7 a.m. She is very good about going right back to bed after bottles - we sometimes have a loud grunting spell during that last feeding for whatever reason - though she sleeps through it.
Daytime - lots of naps. Usually 3 hour stretches. She's sometimes up for about 1 1/2 - 2 hours in the morning and then again in the afternoon or evening. She sleeps a lot still.
3. No swaddling. She hates it because she likes to kick. Also, the pediatrician doesn't love swaddling because she believes babies need the freedom to kick and develop those leg muscles. Don't know how true that is, but LO is a very strong kicker and mover. We just put a light blanket on her in the pack and play bassinet that cannot get over her face (legs only covered) or back when she was in the crib, we put a sleep sack on her.
4. I don't think we're having sleep probs. I wish she would sleep in longer stretches during the night, but she's really a pretty good baby. Not much crying, etc.
