Success after IF

3dpiui BFP WHAT????

One of my mom friends (she has a 5yr old) is trying to get pg. She has cirvical (sp) issues from her first. She did an IUI last month (her first ever) and we were hanging out today. I didn't want to ask but I knew her beta would have been friday or yesterday. Finally she told me (without having to ask) that she was pg but lost the baby. I told her I was so sorry for her loss, but didn't press. However then she told me how she tested + at 3dpiui and that yes you can test that early because the trigger shot leaves your body after 24hours. I was speechless. I asked if she had a +beta and she said that it was negitive when they tested her on Friday and then on Sunday she started bleeding.

It took all my power not to correct her. I mean you CANNOT get a + pg test that quickly right!? She is a new friend and new to this IF stuff so I figure she just has no clue. I didn't want to correct her because who am I to tell her it wasn't a m/c. What would you have done?

  Oh and how clueless right?

Re: 3dpiui BFP WHAT????

  • It may have made her feel better that she just had a failed IUI rather than a miscarriage. I probably would have gently explained things to her to help save her some heartache.

  • as someone who has been pregnant 11 times, and most of them involving a trigger or ART of some sort... sorry. she's full of chit. you cannot get a +hpt that early.

I would be inclined to say "hhhmmm, I've heard 100 times that it's impossible for that to happen, huh, must be a lot of wrong docs out there!"

  • Impossible. BUT tough call. A good friend might appreciate knowing that implantation probably hadn't taken place enough for hgc to truly flow through the urine but hearing that from a casual friend might be harder.

  • i wonder who told her the trigger clears in 24 hours . . . i was always told 10-14 days.

sometimes if i don't feel like it's appropriate for me to say something, i'll point them towards someone else with a comment like, "that's interesting, i could have sworn i heard that it takes 14 days to clear . . . maybe you could ask your doctor about this?"

One of the reasons I didn't say anything is that I couldn't remember how long the trigger takes to clear. I never tested mine out so I didn't want to say anything about that. I did say that I thought 3dpiui was so very early to get a + and that mine didn't show up till 14dpiui and that most it was at least 9dpiui but she was insisting that at 3dpiui it was +.
