It's for a girl? That's why you put "her' right? If you hadn't I would have no idea.... I don't like that name at all. But.... I tend to like shorter MNs and I think you should use a very girly MN.
According to the expanded SSA lists, 2009 saw the births of
1267 boys named Weston
219 boys named Westin
59 boys named Westyn
53 boys named Westen
None of these spellings shows up anywhere on the expanded list for girls (about 30,000 names), meaning that fewer than 5 were born in 2009 (SSA does not publish names that were given to fewer than 5 individuals to help protect their identities).
With numbers like that, you should give her a very obviously feminine mn. It won't help, though. Make sure you read this essay about what a woman named Tyson has gone through because of her name ? a warrant was issued for her arrest when she failed to register for the draft, her medical records and bills are a mess, she has to show ID for all sorts of routine things, etc. Obviously, this is all the fault of a society that puts so much stock in an arbitrary gender binary and assumes so much about people based on their names. But your daughter will have to live in that society, so make sure that you are giving her a man's name for solid reasons, and not just because you think it is cute.
I love unisex names however I do not care for Weston or Westyn on a girl, it just reminds me of westin hotels or best western or what would be the name of a cigar or something!
With that said, Hartley is a cute last name, and I would do a girly middle name as well.
Not a fan of the name for boy or girl, "y" or "o" spelling. I like that a PP posted that article. There are many ways a parent can be creative/unique without causing heartache for the child for their entire life. Not picking on you, just see a lot of these issues in my work and with as much as I respect creativity, you've got to think in the long run too how it will/can affect the child.
