Flu while pregnant

As if the morning sickness (or all day sickness in my case) isnt bad enough...lets add the flu, bronchitis and an upper resp infection! I have been extra cautious not to get sick but this weekend my company had a booth at a Home Show and I had to work it. We had thousands of people come by our booth and apparently one of them was sick because not only did I get sick but the other 2 people working with me at the time got it. We all woke up Sunday morning with the flu. It sucks because I cant take anything. The doctor gave me a list of the OTC meds that I can take but I dont like taking a lot of stuff because I am still worried about the baby. It drives me crazy because I dont know which is the lesser of the 2 evils - taking meds or being sick. Ugg! Has anyone else dealt with this? How long did it take to get through it?

Re: Flu while pregnant

  • Uggggg!!!! I had the flu when I was pg with DD and it was horrible. It took a few days to get over and I really had to make sure that I stayed hydrated. I say take the meds if your dr. says it's okay.

  • I started getting the flu the day I took a home pregnancy test. I made a doctors appointment and she told me not to take anything, just to drink plenty of fluids get a lot of rest and eat chicken soup. I thought it would never go away took about 1 1/2 weeks.  I'm a big tea drinker and was bummed to find out i couldnt drink most teas (that's usually all i drink when im sick), my doctor suggested boiling hot water and mix in some fresh fruits or lemon.....it was actually pretty good and helped with my congestion and sore throat :)

  • I had the flu a few weeks ago, and I actually was thinking that was the only thing wrong with me!! I was complaining that I was sick and had taken like 4 naps in one day, and fortunatly that got me thinking before I could take any medication that may have been bad for the baby!!  And it is awful having two problems that make you exhausted and feel like all you want to do is stay in bed forever!!  I was sick for like 2 weeks and I just took the otc meds like once or twice a day, usually right before bed to help me get some sleep.

  • Thanks ladies! Glad to know you guys survived haha - it just feels like it will never end right now. You really cannot drink tea??? Is that just because of the caffine? I usually drink green tea with honey and lemon when I am sick - I havent had too much this time but I have had a couple glasses. I made it decaf so I thought it was safe. Was there another reason that I shouldnt be drinking it?
