How many do you usually get? My doctor only does 2, one to figure out the due date and the next about 20 weeks to make sure everything is ok and to see the sex. This is my first so Im not sure if 2 is normal or not..another thing they told me if the baby doesnt let us see its sex they will not perform another US unless its an emergency now Im worried my baby wont show itself and then I wont be able to know its sex till I give birth =[ anyone else have this happen?
Re: Question about US
That is routine unless there are complications or you need the 12 week Nuchal Trans. test.
I had tons but I had gestational diabetes with both of my other pregnancies and my OB practice sends you to a perinatologist for the GD. He did ultrasounds pretty regularly. I started seeing him around 28-30 weeks and saw him with the same frequency as my OB.
This. I also had GD and had what felt like 800 u/s at the end. My doctor does some in-office u/s at the beginning, but other than that it, if it wasn't for the GD... I'd have had 2. Oh, and I had one at 20 something weeks because they couldn't get a good picture of her heart at mt first anatomy scan.
I had my 1st ultra sound yesterday at 8w1d, and the only other one I'm scheduled to have is also at 20 weeks.
If at your 20 week appointment baby's legs are crossed or something and you don't find out the sex you can always pay extra to have another u/s done somewhere else. Most insurance companies won't cover additional u/s unless they are medically necessary.
Where have you seen an u/s for $75? If I want an u/s that's not covered by insurance, its $300+; if I want a 3D, add another couple hundred to that (and I've seen it that way in areas other than where I currently live).
Not a medical u/s. There are places that do "just for fun" u/s and they are cheap.
I just googled places in my area and they were cheap less than $200 depending on the package you get which is like how many pictures, if you want a dvd, etc.
A 3D/4D elective place near me charges $70.00 for a 2D session, for gender determination. The 3D packages start at $125.00 and you can add cd's and dvd's on to them. We are going for the gender determination part in 3 weeks, it was free since we purchased one of the upgrade packages.
The only requirement they have is that you must be under prenatal care by a dr, and have already had an ultrasound. They want you to bring a photo of the last ultrasound you had.
Theres one down the street from where I live and they do a weekday special for about $90. I live in California in the Bay Area, so there's tons of the 3d and 4d ones here and they're all competing with eachother.
With my DD she didn't let herself show at 20 weeks so I had to get a 3D and paid about $150 6 years ago for it.
