I am a foreigner and my DH is an American. Since our son will live here (in US), and will have my DH's last name, we are looking for a matching name. I like the name IAN, so I was wondering do you see it as a modern, contemporary name or more like an old fashioned name?
Thank you!

I like Ian. He was the heartthrob of my elementary school.
A friend of a friend named her son this, and I found it refreshing. I don't think it's a trendy or old-fashioned; it's not really classic, either. It's just kind of underused and interesting; simple, but noteworthy. A great choice!

I like it!
I would say it's a timeless name...like Michael or John. It worked 50 years ago, and it works today.

Haha I totally agree. DH and I were at the zoo and there was a little boy named Ian. I smiled and thought to myself, "What a great name!"
my read shelf:
like it alot!
I think of it as a timeless, underused name. I really like it.
I've known older men named ian, but I've also known boys named Ian. It works on both, without ever feeling frumpy, childish, trendy, or stale.
LOVE IT!! !
It was always on our top 3 boy's name list
Ian Joseph (after dh)
Anyway, classic, not overused and a perfect name!
I know a 7 yr old Ian that is awesome and also a 30 something one that is a pretty cool guy
