Trying to Get Pregnant

Muscle relaxers and TTC

I have HORRIBLE pain right now in my neck and shoulders that runs down my back. If I move just right it sends me to tears as it feels like someone is literally stabbing me in the back. I have been to the chiro twice to get put back in place, but my muscles are so tight that it keeps pulling everything back apart. I looked up the muscle relaxer that I have at home and it is a catagory B so it is presummed to be safe for PG women, but hasn't actually been tested. DH and I are entering our fertile window and I should O sometime between today and Friday. Long story short, I guess the question is...what should I do? Take the relaxer tonight, or try and power through it?

Re: Muscle relaxers and TTC

  • Take it tonight and hope it helps, would be my advice. But I also take a regular schedule B medication every day.

But clearly I'm not an expert- still trying after 8 cycles...soo.. :) Take it for what it's worth!

  • If you're in that much pain, I would take it.  Muscle relaxers don't actually do anything to the muscles.  They just relax YOU overall, which might actually calm you down so O isn't delayed from the stress/pain.  GL!

*Note: I am not a Dr.  I just had major back surgery a year ago and was on muscle relaxers for almost 9 months after so I became very familiar with them.

  • I would take it.  I get migraines and my pain meds have a muscle relaxant in them and I still take them when I need them (as instructed by my Dr).  I try to avoid in 2ww as much as I can, but if it's needed I still do.  If you havn't O'd yet I think it's completely fine to take.
  • Better yet girls, I have made an appt. to go see the dr. at 2:30 today. So hopefully I will have some answers. Thanks for your advice and insight. Smile

  • Definitely take the meds!  We give flexeril to our patients all the time when they complain of back pain.  (L&D nurse)  Besides if you are just entering your fertile window, you aren't pregnant yet and wouldn't need to worry about it.

  • I was prescribed Flexoral (Spelling?) but it is okay for PG women, from what I read. It works well for muscles but you have to take it at night because it will make you drowsy!
