10 year anniversary party...or 30th Birthday Bash

yes...I was a baby when I  got married!

I turn 30 next September and wanted to do something big. Maybe go with a group of friends to Vegas or throw a big party.  Our 10 year Anniversary is the following year.  We had a pretty slim budget for the wedding (we didn't even have food!) and we had to cut friends to accomodante our massive family. I would love to have a big party with open bar and some great food with our friends to celebrate.

Obviously none of this matters right now...but what would you do? Birthday Party or Anniversary Party?

  • That's a toughie. Is there any way you can do both? I would celebrate the anniversary but then again I didn't celebrate my 30th at all.

  • I turn 40 a month after our 10th anniversary.  All of my friends are turning 40 that year too, so rather than have *another* party, I asked DH to take me away again on another honeymoon type trip - just the 2 of us.  I might still go to Vegas with my girlfriends to celebrate all of our bdays though. I think I'm kind of over the party thing, though b/c DH and his friends are all already 40 so it's getting old.  And, this way, I get what I want too.

ETA: I'm not sure if I'd want to plan a party again.  It is a lot of work.  Maybe some friends will want to go on a trip with you to celebrate both half way through?

  • i vote for both. But when I asked my DH what he wants to do (he turns 40 the same year we celebrate our 10yr anniversary), he said he wanted to do another big party for anniversary.

  • Too bad they are a year apart as it would be great to be able to do just one big bash.  I personally would do the big anniversary party as I think that would be so much fun and since you had a smaller wedding, you could do a really nice party now.  For my 30th, I was still single and a friend of mine tossed me a small party at my apartment and I loved it.  For my 40th a few months ago, we went out for a nice family dinner with my one sister and her family, my parents and my ILs and of course my family.  My DH then surprised me with a small party at a cool restaurant/bar - even my kids were there for a short time.  My SILs/BILs and a bunch of friends were there.  If you do something fun but small for your 30th - you can get a nice celebration out of both.
