Cincinnati Babies

Spent the day in L&D (sorry..long)

Since Saturday, I have been fighting a stomach bug, and haven't felt well in general. I had too busy of a weekend with a fun baby sprinkle given by girlfriends, running errands for DD's bday party next weekend, and we had another Open House yesterday. (TOO much cleaning to prepare, even though DH did most of the heavy work.)

Yesterday, I started having sharp back pain and small contractions with nausea and overall discomfort. I fought through it and went to school today. With my high-risk status, my doc wanted me to call with any abnormal feeling since my HELLP syndrome struck so suddenly with DD. Called him this morning and he sent me to L&D to get on the monitor and to be checked out.

Once at L&D, I was put on the baby monitor, and luckily, baby girl's HB was strong and healthy, and she was doing great. Me, on the other hand, not so much. Hadn't been able to eat much due to nausea so they put me on an IV of Zofran which made me almost pass out since I was so weak to begin with. After awhile, I began to feel better, although they switched me to 2 bags of IV saline for dehydration. They took urine and bloodwork, both came back fine, which I was happy about! No signs of HELLP right now. Another great point was that an u/s confirmed baby is head down, so my aspiration of a VBAC is still attainable.

My OB examined me, and I am still 1 cm and baby's station is still very high up. I was having regular contractions for almost 2 hours, then they became more sporadic until they dissipated. Since I never experienced one contraction, not even BH, with DD, I had no understanding of what a contraction was. :) Since doc said I was having false labor contractions and my bloodwork was fine, they wanted to send me home to be comfy in my own bed.

Resting now at home, although I'm still feeling considerable low back pain and the occasional contraction. Not quite ready for baby to arrive yet, although only time will tell. I am very happy that HELLP has not returned, and I hope it stays away!!

Thanks for reading, ladies.

p.s. Officially the most pregnant ever at 36w4d!! I am so pumped that I made it past the time I delivered Madelyn.

  • That must have been terrifying, given what you went through with Madelyn. I'm glad you are doing well and hope that baby girl stays in to keep on cooking for a couple more weeks! Get some rest and stay hydrated and relaxed. I hope you feel better!

  • Ugh that sucks, but luckily you are home and feeling better. I'm sure getting all the fluids in you should help also. It has to be super exciting to almost hit the 37 week, fully baked, time marker. It'll be here anytime though, very exciting!!

  • So scary but I'm happy you're home and you and the little one are safe. You are getting so close!
