Pregnant after a Loss

Sonoline B doppler - how early did you hear h/b?

I'm trying to decide between this medical grade doppler that I rented last pregnancy or the Sonoline B.  I only kept the rental for a few months (until I could feel DD kicking) because it's expensive, but it worked every single time without problems.  I didn't get it until about 10.5 weeks so I don't know if I would have heard anything earlier.

Anyway, I'd rather just buy the Sonoline and own it, but I was curious how sensitive it is.

Re: Sonoline B doppler - how early did you hear h/b?

  • I think Sonoline guarantees hearing a h/b by about 10 weeks.  I didn't get mine until 15 weeks (I procrastinated ordering it), so I haven't tried it any earlier than that.

As early as 7-8 weeks huh??  I may just have to order one.  I don't have my first u/s until 8 weeks and I am driving myself crazy!!

Yeah I don't believe that. If that was the case, OBs would be trying to hear heartbeats way earlier.

I'm just passing on information. DH googled it this afternoon and found a sonoline description saying as early as 8 weeks fwiw.

  • I rented a medical grade doppler with one of my pregnancies and this time bought a Sonoline B.  I found my baby's heartbeat right before 8 weeks with the Sonoline.

As for docs not checking that early it's probably because it can take a very long time to find it that early on.  At home you have half an hour plus to spend searching for it but in a docs office they aren't going to spend that kind of time.

Just an fyi though, even though I found the heartbeat that early, the actual beats didn't register on the display accurately until a few weeks later.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • I love my sonoline B it has saved my sanity but I didn't order it until I was 11 weeks and I found the heart beat the first time I tried it at 11w5d. I was too afraid to order it earlier than 12 weeks in fear I wouldn't find the heart beat.

  • I tried it at 9w6d and found it.

  • Just before 10 weeks (9w5d)
  • I ordered mine a little late so did not try until week 14 and it took me a few times of practice before I was sure it was baby at15 weeks. I also have an anterior placenta though which makes it even difficult for the doctor to find at times so I think the sonoline does a great job!!!

  • I bought it around 10 weeks but couldn't hear anything until about 14 weeks.  But, I found out I was looking way too high for the HB, so I couldn't find it until the nurse found it at the Dr.'s office because then I knew where to look.  I think I could have found it earlier if I knew what I was doing.  So far I have been really satisfied with it!

  • Interesting info.  I'm toying with the idea of getting one to help me get through the nomansland between symptoms tapering off (now) and movement.  I'm torn whether I should get it now or wait until my u/s at 11w though.  Sounds like it might be worth it to get it now...though I'm a little worried I'll freak myself out if I can't find it.

  • I have the sonoline A...it didn't pick up anything until 11.5w, and then I had 50% success between 11.5w-14w. After that, it worked 100% of the time.

  • It worked consistently for me starting at 12w0d. I'm "fluffy" and tall with a long torso and an anterior placenta so I'm guessing that's why it took til 12 weeks for me. I pink puffy heart my doppler though - it has been a major stress-reliever for me since the day I got it to work the first time. Worth much, much more than the $50 I paid!

  • I love my doppler and would be a basket case w/o it.

I first tried around 10w or so and had trouble, but I wasn't trying that hard. Tried again a week later and have not had an issue since.
