? About Crying

DS is a little over 2 weeks old. Sometimes when he cries, and he's really, really pissed off, his little face will turn a very red, almost purple color, and in-between cries he'll seem to hold his breath. It's only for a few seconds, but it scares the crap out of me every time. He'll only do this once per crying spell, and maybe only every few days. It's not every time he cries. Is this normal??? I really hate it! I'm going to give the pedi a call too to ask about it :(.

Re: ? About Crying

  • Sadie does this too. When she decided she's hungry you have about -2 seconds to get the bottle in her mouth, if not, she does the redfaced no breath cry. I try to calm her as best as I can because I hate it too but it's totally normal or at least nothing to worry about. I mean, what can you do but hope they stop?

  • His little lungs are still learning how to work propperly, don't worry. Just remember that crying helps develop their lungs.
  • DD used to do this. The pedi told us to blow in her face when she does. It startles them into taking a breath. Then we would do our best to calm her.
  • DS does this too.

  • DD does this too! My mom said to blow in her face, so I do that to get her breathing again. Even though, I know she will start up on her own after a few seconds. Sometimes when she is not even crying, she sticks out her arms with her hands in fists and holds her breath for a few seconds. It reminds me of a child doing it when they don't get their way! lol
