You may remember I initially was stuck on using Ellen in DD2s name. I wasn't in love with any of the names I'd found on here or thought of on my own, so MH and I went back to the drawing board this weekend. We both ended up liking Jessica when we were just throwing out names with my sister.
Jessica is #70-something on SSA in 2009, was top 10 in 99-00 but I don't know any little girls with this name in my area. DD1 is Kathleen Nicole and our last name begins with a P.

Re: MN for Jessica?
I hate trendy names like Avery and Madison for girls, so to each their own. We aren't set on it, but MH and I aren't agreeing on many names with this DD so it was the first one we both really liked. For awhile we liked Elizabeth but I have a friend with an angel baby named Elizabeth so I'd feel bad (even though I know it "shouldn't matter") any time I posted on fb or wrote about Elizabeth, knowing it was her deceased daughter's name. It was my Grandma's name so I'd have the "family name out" but I'd still kind of feel like a beeyotch using it.
I must not be the only one who likes if 10 years ago it spiked into the top 10 and its still in the top 100.

I think Jessica is a really pretty name. It isn't popular right now, but I would disagree with the statement about it being dated.
My mom's name is Therese and while it is pretty, the whole world thinks it is pronounced "Teresa." Maybe it doesn't matter since it is the MN, but something to think about. I voted for Ellen.
Baby Boy born sleeping at 20 weeks.
MH said the same thing. I have always liked Therese. My Grandmother went to St Therese parish when I was growing up so I have read about St Therese, and someone posting on here wanting less common female saint names the other day reminded me of her. Doubt DH would go for it anyways.

I understand, but you asked for an opinion, and I think that it's very 80's early 90's. I was born in 1986 and the only people I know named Jessica are my age.
However, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name Elizabeth it's timeless and classic! I don't think you would be a beeyotch using that name. Also you could sit down with your friend (whether you feel this way or not) and tell her that you are choosing the name Elizabeth
1. because you love it
2. because it is a family name
3. you want to honor her daughter also.
Also do you plan on calling her Elizabeth if you were to use that name? you could tell your friend we are using the name Elizabeth but calling her "Liz, Betsy, Elle, Ellie, etc"
Jessica Ellen is good but Jessica Elyse would be better. (or Elise)
I moved my last name to the middle when I got married but Loved the middle name Elyse.

I like the family significance behind "Ellen," and I like the name itself a lot (might even have used it for DD, but we have a niece who goes by Ellie). However, "Jessica Ellen" doesn't flow that well. There's kind of a "stop" in the back of your throat between pronouncing the "a" and the "E."
Also - re: Elizabeth, do you know if your friend was planning to use the full name, or a NN? If she was planning on using the full names, I think you could still use Elizabeth because it has so many pretty NNs...
Oh its fine, I give opinions all the time. I wasn't butthurt you don't like Jessica was just saying clearly there's different opinions on names out there.
Elizabeth was actually what I originally wanted to name DD1, but MH refused because he dated a Libby (NN I hate and would never use). Now he is "ok" with it but neither of us were in love with it. Was just one of the only names we initially agreed on after finding out this LO was another DD.
I don't really do NNs (other than pet names) with DD1 because I know a million Katies/Kates and think Kathy can be one she chooses to use when she's older if she wants, but I won't automatically "give" a kid a NN. I hated the NN to my name Shelly/Michelle so refused to be saddled with it even at 3. lol. MH likes the NN Jessie so would likely use that with Jessica, though I'd likely call her Jessica most of the time. My Grandma was Betty from Elizabeth, though I'd not use that. I like Beth but don't love it as a NN (because like I said I'm not a huge fan of names having to use NNs).

Yeah I'd have to practice yelling Jessica Ellen before I decided if I for sure liked it. Kathleen Nicole rolls pretty well when DD1 is in trouble.
I don't know what her preference was going to be, she lost her daughter around 21 weeks so I doubt she'd even finalized names when she had to name her... I personally actually don't use NNs with DD1 other than pet names, so I wouldn't always go immediately to a NN with DD2 (see another response I made). I hated the given NN to Michelle (Shelly) and actually rejected it when my Mom tried to call me that when I was 3 or 4.

Jess & Adam, married 2009, precious Audrey born in 2011. BFP 1/6/13, 6-wk MMC discovered at 9 wks 2/11/13. D&C 2/18/13, second D&C 4/23/13 for retained placenta.
BFP 8/24/13!! EDD 5/1/14, delivered healthy and sweet Zoey Leanne on 5/5/14 by repeat c-section.
I voted for Jessica Ellen because it has a special meaning considering it was your mom's MN.
DH & I are working on a girl's name now (just in case) and it's been awful. We can't agree on anything!
Good luck!!!

My name is Jessica Marie. Growing up, there were always multiple Jessica's in my class so I would go by Jess or Jessi. At the time, I wished that I had a more unique name but now I like it.
No disrespect to the deceased but I don't think Jessica Ellen flows well at all. And it seems like 2 names from totally different eras/2 different naming styles.
