Where to buy ballet "stuff?"

I signed DD up for a ballet class for the spring.  I am looking for a leotard, tights, and shoes.  Any suggestions?  TIA!

I used to teach dance classes and I would always send my students to Target for leotards and tights and payless for shoes. I'm not sure if the stores have all the dance wear in this time of year but by the end of the summer they should have a full stock! Also, you might want to check with your studio about what they require their students to wear. some studios what you to buy directly from them and require black leotard and pink tights and either black or white tap shoes. It's a money maker for the studios.

  • Walmart has cheap leotards and tights. Target carries dance stuff too, but it is a little more expensive. If you are not opposed to it, a lot of consignment shops carry dance things.

  • Payless has tights & shoes. Old Navy has leotards.

  • I got my daughter her ballet stuff at Old Navy actually. It's perfect for the most part, except I don't think I will buy her ballet slippers there again. They work fine for where she's at now (she's 2) but they're not very flexible, which I could see being a problem down the road.
  • I should also add that I just bought this set from Walmart.com (in size XS). $6.00 for the set and 97 cents to ship it to home. Great deal!

  • Old Navy has leotards, skirts, and tights for pretty cheap. Once Upon A Child sells new dance shoes and clothes for cheap, as does Target, our ToysRUs, JCPenny, and oddly Kohls.

  • Ditto everyone with Target. I see them there all the time!  I can't wait to sign up DD for dance - so cute!

I had this same question.  How am I just now seeing Old Navy sells ballet stuff?  Wow...that's why it's good to be on the Bump!
  • I've bought some stuff from Kohls, jcp, target. I even got leg warmers(for winter) at meijer. When she first got started I went to a local dancewear store & I'm glad I did. It cost probably more but I found a gorgous ballet tutu and they sized her for her ballet (capezio) shoes.

  • We shop WalMart, Target or Shopko for tights and leotards.  For shoes we always try the consignment shop first, then we go to a local dance store if we don't find anything.  They have a buy back program and a buy-so-many-get-one-free program on dance shoes.
