Baby Names

Will you tell?

Hi again!

I've only posted on here once before asking about names but we were just discussing whether we would tell our families or not about the sex of the baby (when it happens). I thought this would be a good place to post. As of now, we are thinking that we will find out the sex but just keep it a secret from our families so we can surprise them later! So this is just kind of a fun little poll to see what everybody else is doing. So will you tell your family or will you wait to find out the sex? Can't wait to hear your answers!

Re: Will you tell?

  • Not sure what this has to do with names...but, if you tell your family you know the sex, they'll give you crap and try to get it out of you. I speak from personal experience.

  • I would tell them, no sense it keeping it a secret if we know. Plus they would kill us if we knew and didn't tell.

  • Why not tell the sex if you know?  I can understand not telling the name...who wants the eye roll or fake smile.  But the sex...why not?

  • I can understand not finding out the sex (keeping some of the mystery of pregnancy like before modern technology).  I can understand picking the name but keeping it a secret (to avoid unwelcome input).  I don't really understand finding out the sex but not telling until the baby comes.  It just seems like an attempt create drama.
  • We haven't decided yet.  I feel really pressured to find out though.  It seems so hard these days to find gender-neutral clothes.

We definitely won't be sharing names.  We learned our lesson the hard way last pregnancy.

  • i'm not pregnant, but our plan is to be team green and wait to find out the gender during birth.

  • We found out the sex on Friday.

My family had driven down 11 hours to see us this weekend, and so we invited both my mom and MIL to come to the u/s with us. I'm really glad we did. It was such a special moment for both Mom and MIL (this is the first grandbaby on both sides), and MIL's background as a NICU nurse was really helpful as the tech showed us all of the organs and everything in working order.

So, obviously, my mom and MIL found out with us. We told everyone after that, many within minutes of finding out. I'm not good at keeping secrets, so we'd always planned on finding out and telling everyone.

I've also heard some really cute surprise stories, though. There are fun ways to share the news if you're patient and creative enough!

  • We told the sex, we didn't want everything to be yellow!  But didn't tell the name until he was born.  Worked out great and still had a surprise for everyone:)

  • You'll get more and better presents if you tell the gender! I would keep the name to yourself if you want to surprise them. We're team green so it's not an issue for us. Let us know what you decide!
