Cost of delivery at Northside

Hi!

I can't get my insurance claim info. past Aug. 2009 and was trying to figure out how much we need to budget/save for the delivery cost coming up. We have UHC HMO and my deductible is 1000 and that is now going to be met after we pay the bills for my hospital stay from two weeks ago (the bill sucks!!). I know that insurance covers 80 and we cover 20%. Does anyone have any "recent" estimates on what Northside charged for their delivery and hospital stay. Either what they paid after insurance or what they charged the insurance companies. I'm hoping for a V-delivery like before but if you had a C-section also let me know. Thanks!!

P.S. Wasn't today a GORGEOUS day!! Loved the weather this weekend!Cool

Re: Cost of delivery at Northside

  • Mine is probably at least a day if not two longer than most since I was in labor 24 hours (starting at like 7 pm the night before which I believe counts for the day and then had an emergency c-section and had some problems with my leg) but I think the total was like $26 k.  I remember laughing at the final cost because it is just crazy.

I believe V-cost is around $16k as I had a friend who had to pay out of pocket.

If you know you are going to have to pay something upfront you may want to call Northside.  They seem to give you a better deal if you pay beforehand.

  • My c-section (uncomplicated) at Piedmont ran around $15K. I would guess that other hospitals are probably within the same ballpark.

  • I believe the 20% you will pay is 20% of the negotiated rate.  This is a lot less than the straight out price that people will pay with no insurance. My c-section was 26K, but the negotiated rate was around 5-6K, I think.
  • Call the financial services department at Northside and ask.  They get questions about their charges all the time I am sure.

This is correct.  If you call Northside billing department they will be able to give  you the negotiated rate contracted with UHC.

  • The gross rate for my C-section at Northside for August 2010 with a 5-night stay was $17k plus $3k for the baby's expenses.
