i just checked nancy's list and i can't believe that philippa is so rare in the US. i like the name [and the horse part of the meaning that goes with bay/ bayard] and think it's pretty on paper but is the pronunciation too weird?
for some reason, even though it's a completely legitimate name with lots of history, i can't help but get over the fact that it's philip with a couple of extra letters.
do you think it's one of those names that won't be well-received because it's unfamiliar to some people?

I absolutely love it.
My two hesitations are that she will be half filipino so I worry about people thinking there is some sort of connection, and also that I have an uncle Philip which makes it seem a bit weird.

thanks for the replies! pippa is definitely the nickname i would use, too. i've always loved poppy but we have 2 grandfathers who are called poppy/ poppie so that wouldn't work. i guess i was always familiar with the name so i figured it would be more popular than it is.
also, appellation mountain had it as name of the day here and one of the replies was from a philippa who said she has trouble when introducing herself because people don't understand how to say the name. just covering my bases to see what i should keep on my girl list
