so anxious for next dr. appt!

My husband and I can hardly wait for our next appointment on March 23rd! Our first appointment just included bloodwork, another pregnancy test(just in case the three I took at home were inacurate), information pamphlets, etc...We actually met the doctor at the second appoinment, and she did an exam, and a Pap. I just can't wait until we can finally see the baby, and hear the heartbeat! I will be 12 weeks along by the time of the appoinment. Will she for sure do both? Or do we have to be having a test done in order to get an ultrasound this early. My husband seems to think they won't do one until week 20. That seems crazy to me! Anyone with advice please respond:-) Thanks!

I think it depends on the dr's office. I had an transvaginal ultrasound at my 1st appointment at 9 weeks and got to see our baby & hear heartbeat. The nurse said they always do a ultrasound at the 1st visit to make sure the baby is the right size etc. for the correct due date. Some doctors do not do an ultrasound until the big one at 20 weeks. I was actually pleasantly surprised.

I think most offices do one in the first trimester to check how the pregnancy is progressing and to confirm dates.  Heck if I had waited until 20 weeks we might not have found out I was having twins til then!  I had my first at my 2nd appointment at 10 weeks.

In general most places do not do ultrasounds until 20 weeks unless you are high risk for something. However you should be able to hear the heartbeat for sure!
