First night out

DH and I went out together last night for the first time since A arrived.  His cousin babysat Alec.  Even though I love her and know she's awesome with babies, it was sooo hard to leave him.  We went to see the Capitol Steps.  They were hilarious, but I couldn't stop checking my phone.  When we got home, Alec was sound asleep, but apparently he was upset for most of the night.  DH's cousin said he cried as soon as we left.  She finally put him in his stroller and walked him around the house.  I'm glad DH and I went out, but I think it'll be awhile before we do it again.

How was your first night out with DH?  If you haven't gone out yet, when do you plan to do so?

Re: First night out

  • Cooper spends a lot of time with our parents. We have a date night 2ce a month that includes him spending the night out. I trust them completely and we need time to ourselves too. The first time we left him alone was at 2 weeks when we had to go to a charity event. I love my son but I know DHs parents take amazing care of him. I also have to have my FIL watch him for 2 hours 3 times a week while I go to physical therapy because kids arent allowed there.

  • last night was the first "date night" we had just the two of us.  my parents babysat.  I've left him with my mom lots of times so I wasn't worried and it was MUCH more relaxing going out for dinner without him because I wasn't worried about him crying and us having to leave mid meal or before our food arrived or something.

  • First time we went out without her was at 2 weeks when we had to go to a friend's dad's funeral. We've gone on a few date nights since and it's fine. Only problem is, we only leave her with my parents, so I don't want to do it too often and burn them out. I don't trust my MIL to do things the way I want, plus her house is a wreck (borderline hoarder) so we don't take M over there. We could leave her with my BIL & his wife, who I totally trust, but they have a LO too who is 2 months older than M and I don't want them to be overwhelmed.

  • We have gone to the movies and out to eat locally while our parents have watched Alexander, but yesterday was our latest night out.  My mom actually had to put him to bed, which made me scared, because he usually "breastfeeds to sleep."  But, he did great and fell asleep right away.

That's great that your parents are nearby and help out!  My parents live on the east coast, and DH's parents are always busy.  My mom always offers to babysit, and I know she would come over in a heartbeat, but I'm not going to ask her to drive 3 1/2 hours so DH and I can go to the movies.

I don't blame you. DHs parents live 15 minutes from us so it's easy for them. With his colic I NEED breaks. And because DH is their only child and Cooper Is their only grandchild my MIL wants him as much as possible!

  • We've gone out 3 times for a few hours and left her with grandparents and she has been great!  This weekend was the first overnight.  It was our anniversary and she spent the night at my mom's.  My mom said she did really well and she had a good time with her.  We had fun, but it was really weird to be without her for the whole night!  We kept looking at pictures and videos of her on our phones!
  • We've left her twice. For DH's graduation from grad school and for a church service that DH and I both got paid to play. We haven't had a date night yet but I don't feel like I am missing out.

  • We still havent had a date night either.  My parents would do it in a heartbeat but they live 2 hours away.  DH's parents live much closer but I don't fully trust MIL.  I just don't think that she would think not to do certain things (like leave him laying on the couch while she goes to the kitchen).  Granted I know DH turned out just fine but I'm still having a rough time with it.

  • I've left DD for many nights, but I was sick and in the hospital for 6 days.  That was when she was 2 weeks old, so I got used to her being away from me.  Since then DH and I have gone out several times by ourselves.  Either my parents or his mom watches her.  When we are out, I think about her but don't stress about it.  I enjoy my time with DH and enjoy getting out of the house.  We do go out with DD too.
