Tummy Time

Both of my other girls hated tummy time in the beginning. They would pretty much cry the whole 5 or so minutes I would do it. I don't think I really started until 2 months. I honestly don't remember. I feel like with DD, being only 5 weeks old (adjusted age 38 weeks gestation), we are a little ways off from trying since she still sleeps most of the day. 

When did you start tummy time with your preemie? How did s/he handle it?

We actually tried it yesterday.  When Leland was discharged he told us he wanted them to start on tummy time right away.  We do it for just a few minutes at a time.  The cry and scream the entire time .  Even though they hate it, they seemed like the did pretty well with it.

We started right away though it was never well received, and usually still isn't today. We started with very short amounts and slowly worked up to several minutes. LO's therpist believes that his reflux causes it to be very uncomfortable for his on his tummy. He's still not crawling, but we persist in trying to do as much tummy time as possible.

At 1 month, some TT was on daddy's chest. DD just started to control her head. YAY! She will hold her head up and scoot her leg like she is crawling. Too cute! This last from 5-8 minutes.

We stop when she starts more crying that crawling.

I guess I didn't consider her laying on my chest TT but maybe it is? We do a lot of that every day. I have yet to just put her down on a surface on her tummy though. I suppose there isn't much of a difference? Except usually TT on me (or DH) = sleeping!
