Can I make my water break?

I'm bored at work and just thinking..... Are there things I can do to help try and make my water break? LOL

Can intercourse make my water break? I am dilated 2cm, if that would matter?

A friend said she did squats, and her water broke!!

Just curious!

A bacterial infection can do it, so maybe jam something up there?!?!? Smile

In all seriousness though, I think it's mostly a chemical thing- the stretching and breaking down of the placenta combined with contractions. I PROM-ed with my daughter before 35 weeks and the doctors said there was nothing I could have done to bring it on. Your girlfriend may have had a ROM after doing squats, but it's not a causal relationship- just something she did prior to something happening that was going to happen regardless.

My DH and I had sex last Saturday afternoon and I later told him that night I thought my water would never break and lo and behold...it happened that night:)

Even if you could, why would you want to? It does not necessarily start your labor. If it breaks and then nothing happens that's not good (unless you want an induction).

I think if there was a sure way to do it, no one would ever go over their due date!! I was a week overdue and someone suggested that I do lite bouncing on a trampoline, I ACTUALLY tried!! I was very uncomfortable and ready for baby.. It did nothing!!

I don't know why you would want to try and break your water if your body is not ready for labor.

ETA: no clue , I have never heard any OWT of how to break your water . GL

i actually googled this last week, i don't think you can...

my nurse at the OBs office said to do curb walking to get things going or sex. She said she didn't really believe in any of the other OWTs.

my water broke less than an hour after sex but......

I don't think you want your water to break before it is ready. My friend has two kids, with one the water didn't break until lo was almost born, and with the other water breaking was the start of labor. She said that labor was much harder because there is less "cushion" from the amniotic fluid.

um, a 12inch crochet hook that the dr uses to break water. there really isnt anything you can do except wait. best thing now is to walk, and pray for good contractions, etc.
