We are renting a beach house for a week this summer. Ben will be 10 months - so I'm just curious - for those who have done it before - how did you babyproof while on vacation?
Depending on car space, we either rent or bring a baby gate for the stairs leading to the main level. And that's about it other than to do some quick redecorating/moving knick knacks that DS could potentially get into. Have fun!

We went to Jamaica at Christmas and because we were flying we couldn't take much. For one set of stairs that was outside and went to the pool, we set up a blockade with some of the heavy adirondack chairs. When we got there, we moved stuff that DD shouldn't get near such as breakables, etc. When we were in our bedroom, we always kept the door shut because there was a stairway right outside out bedroom door. Basically, we just did what we could but essentially had to have someone watching her at all times. It worked out fine though.
some beach houses, esp in OBX, have baby gear with the house (it will usually state). However, the baby gate that came with the house we rented last year didn't fit the stairs (strange). We considered bringing our own, but didn't have much car space. Like pp, we created baracades with chairs, etc. and had enough people watching DD that it wasn't a problem. We also moved breakable items.
we went to obx when DS was 10 months old and ditto all the pp, remove all the knick knacks....you can bring some cheap cabinet locks if you want, those dont' take up space but may or may not work depending on the type of cabinets...we also blcoked the main level stairs with some of the bigger chairs and just made sure to keep an extra eye on DS...we all survived!!!:-)
We rented a place in the OBX when DS was 16 months. The rental had two baby gates, but the one for the top of the steps didn't really fit that well. We put a gate at the entrance to the kitchen so we didn't have to worry about cabinet locks, we kept all the doors closed and moved the knick-knacks into one of the bedroom closets. When we would go down to the level with the bedrooms, we would just bring the gate from the kitchen down with us to block the stairs. But between DD and DS, we pretty much had to watch them every second...no relaxing for us!

hehe...that is certainly true (at least with my DS) for us. One idea that worked for us is that while DS napped (last year, DD was only 12 weeks old and her schedule was all over the place), we alternated days on who stayed in the house with the kids and who could go back to the beach/hang out by the pool/take the dogs for a walk, etc. While it didn't allow us to relax together, at least I left feeling as if I had some down time.
