Which is better for a 3 year old Tag reader or Tag jr

I am thinking of getting this for DS for his 3rd birthday.

I don't see much difference other than the books and the size shape of the pen itself.

Which is better?

Re: Which is better for a 3 year old Tag reader or Tag jr

  • We got M the Tag Jr. for Christmas and she's barely touched it.  :(  From what I gather the Tag Reader is fairly advanced, you have to drag the reader across words to hear them out loud.  The Jr. you just kind of tap it wherever on the page and it reads lines or makes sounds.  So I guess for something he might use right now I'd go with Jr.?

So far, the Jr. hasn't been a hit in our house.  Maybe she's still too young to understand, but M seems to get a ton more out of us reading books to her and talking about things on the page.

  • I just don't see the draw in these things. I can't imagine Ben even sitting still for that. He likes books but I think he likes reading together as a big part of it. I'd love to hear what age kids actually like them. Mostly I hear people saying their kids don't use them.

  • We got W the Tag Jr for his 3rd birthday and regifted it to his cousin for Christmas.  The book selection was pretty poor, IMO and the Tag Reader was more his speed.

I agree with Jill that he doesn't do much sitting and playing with it, but he will play with it in the stroller while we run, or while we are at dinner.  It's a nice quite time activity.
