Re: when were your babies able to sit up on their own?

  • Mine still aren't able to, although I know a lot of babies at 5-6 months can do it. My pedi said most babies do it around 7 months. I think we should hit that target.

  • I think around 8 months was when they could sit on their own and not topple over constantly.

  • Ours haven't yet, but I think they are getting close.

  • My girls did when they were just over 6 months.  I know how you feel - I couldn't wait until mine did, especially because one hated being on her stomach!

  • I kept waiting for this too! Around 6.5 we could prop one of them. By 7.5they were much sturdier, but still tipping every now and then. Even now I tend to put a pillow or boppy behind them. I love that they can sit up now!

  • I thought mine would walk before they could sit.  They were crawling and pulling to stand before that sat.

They finally sat (within one day of each other) at 8 months.

  • Ours sit now without support, but after a couple minutes we can tell they are starting to get tired and are about to topple over.

  • We are now not toppling over much anymore.  Alexis has been pretty good for about a month and Reagan has been good for about 1-2 weeks.  I LOVE that they can sit up now

  • DS was sitting at 5.5 months and DD right at 7 months.

  • Between 5 and 6 months, but they really became experts at 7 months.  They still sometimes topple over, though, especially if they are reaching for something beyond their grasp.

  • my first DD did at 6 months.   My twin girls are over 7mo and they are not even close.   They immediately flop on their backs and start rolling across the room.   I'm afraid they are going to totally skip the sit in one place and not move phase.
  • My older DD was able to sit and not fall over around 6 months.

This exactly. DS actually just face-planted this morning because he was sitting up and reaching for something on the floor (I had turned around to get a diaper out of the drawer.) Woops.
