Stupid Labor Related ?

What is the rule of 5-1-1 that I always see on the national boards?  My OB just simply said contrax every 3-5 minutes that are strong enough I can't walk/talk/breath.  I will of course go with what my OB told me, but just wondering what that rule was.

FWIW, I have been having contrax off and on since Sunday afternoon.  Today they are 9 to 10 minutes apart for the last half hour to an hour.  I am hoping they keep going rather than stop!

  • The rule is contractions that are 5 minutes apart, lasting 1 minute each, and follow that pattern for 1 hour. I never got to go into labor on my own, but that's what my OB told me. Good luck!
