I have been reading Dr. Luke's book-and trying to figure out if I should start making the food changes now, or do I wait to see what my MFM says? I have my first appointment at just before 8 weeks.
Triplet Mom's-how did you manage the weight gain expectations? I want to do everything I can to make sure these babies are healthy-it's just hard trying to figure out how to do it!
Re: Weight gain recs
I didn't stress about it, I just tried to eat as much protein as possible. And I drank lots of whole milk and ate lots of cheese. I had serious aversions to a lot of meat, so I just ate what I could.
My doctor was always happy with my weight gain. I ended up gaining 70 lbs, but a lot of that was fluid (17 lbs in 11 days at the end!)
I had good sized kids for their gestation (4'3, 4'10, and 4'10 at 33w2d) so I guess I did something right!

I just ate when I was hungry, never limited myself, and tried to focus on eating lots of dairy and protein. I gained 65 lbs. total and my boys were all between 5-6lbs. at 36w. My doctors were always happy with my weight gain.
If I had actually followed Dr. Luke's caloric recommendations I think I would have gained a million-billion pounds. This is not to say I didnt' eat lots, I did. I just didn't stress too much about it. If I was hungry I ate. There were plenty of times I was up hungry in the middle of the night wtih a peanut butter sandwich and a glass of milk.
I had the same ? and my Peri recommends I gain 40lbs at the most. But that's due to my starting weight. I think you should def get your Dr's opinion, the more the better, and do what's right and managable for you! Right now I don't have much of an appetite and when I do eat, I fill up so quickly so I try to get protein at each "mini meal" so that I get as much as possible!
All these MoMs with Triplets on here are so awesome with all their suggestions and they give you a realistic perspective on the strategies they tried!
