*** Malia - silly and random question ***

I saw you posted this below:

imagemyday1708:
We had a BBQ in our back yard and got all the food and drinks at COSTCO. I don't cook, so we did burgers/hotdogs and potato salad, chips, pretzels, nuts type of stuff. That's all you need for a BBQ! Easy peasy!

I'm always really intrigued when people say they don't cook - does your H do all the cooking? Or do you just eat out all the time? I know not everyone enjoys cooking like I do, but it surprises me when people say that they simply don't cook - it's one of those silly little things that intrigue me but I've never actually asked anyone about it (although I've heard other people say this). Stick out tongue

  • LOL! Can't get ANYTHING past you!

What I mean is that I don't make anything fancy. I still boil water for pasta or put rice in a rice cooker and heat up chili from the can in a pot or put a pizza in the oven. Easy things. I just mean that I don't make my own chili, my own pasta sauce, and heaven help me when it comes to stews or slow-cooker stuff or whatnot!

So pretty much all we eat comes out of a box or a can or whatnot. I just don't have time for anything else after work. And on weekends, I'm too lazy! I would also add that most nights, DH does "make" dinner, and by that I mean he'll heat up the soup from the cans or pop the pizza in the oven. GWIM?

That said, I did "bake" some muffins last weekend for Alexa. I added water to the mixture and put them in the oven. :-)

Ahhh I see. So you cook but don't *cook*. This made me laugh a bit because I sometimes look up recipes on allrecipes.com, and there was this one I found where all of the comments turned into a huuuuge fight about whether the recipe (which essentially combined pre-packed ingredients and a few seasonings) was really a proper recipe or "just dumping stuff together." I thought it was all a pretty silly semantic argument, but people got really heated up - I didn't realize people felt so strongly about it!

I guess I do a combination - I make my own chili (sort of - I use canned beans and dump everything in the crockpot before I leave for work), but can't be bothered to make my own pasta sauce. I'll make muffins from scratch, but brownies come out of a box. I totally agree that it's hard to get the time when you come home from work - we get home at around 5.20-5.30pm and eat dinner with the boys at about 6pm, so anything I make on a weekday needs to take 30 min max to prepare and cook, and that rules out anything complicated.
