Is it safe to have my daughter at the beach if she has a mic key button? we're making our plans for our summer vacation. she's going to be 3 and has never been to the beach. is it safe with her button? should i cover it with something?
You can cover it if you are concerned about sand (I haven't done it, but I know some moms recommend tagaderm). The salt water is actually not bad at all for the stoma Have fun at the beach!

This. We were told, after he was all healed of course, that there were no restrictions for him with his mic key button. Have fun!

We were told no oceans, rivers, lakes etc.. only chlorinated pools. We still took ds to the beach (trach and gtube) and he was just fine.
Both our GI and Surgeon told us that if "I" wouldn't swim in it, then neither should my child, but not because of her gtube. The concern is not the water, but the bacteria. They both said that a properly fitted gtube will not allow anymore water into the stomach than a typcial child will swallow in the process of playing. So, no Hudson River tubies!!
