I have not posted here before but have lurked a little bit. We are working on getting a boy name ready as we have a girl name figured out (we find out the gender Monday!). I wanted to know what you all think of Sebastian around here?
It's a nice name, but seems to be growing in popularity. I know 3 Sebastians in my neighborhood who are all around DD's age and have another close friend who has a son named Sebastian, so that makes 4 in the same city.
If it's not common around you at all, then no worries. It very well may be a regional thing.
I sorta like it, but it's kind of a guilty pleasure name for me, not sure I would ever actually use it. Altho that was Ryan Philippe's name in Cruel Intentions and he is dead sexy!

It would be my first choice if I hadn't used it 11 years ago (years before marriage and even thinking about babies) for my cat. I love my Sebastian, but something tells me it'd be more than a little odd to name my baby after my cat.

I like Sebastian. It's slightly more popular in the UK than it is in the States, so to me, it comes across as a little more international. This could also work in your favor since it's not as well-used, but still familiar. Sometimes that's a tough combination to find. It's obviously masculine which is also a bonus. That said, it's been in the top 100 in the US since 2000. Other countries it charts in: Sweden (top 100), Poland (#35), Norway, (top 10), Netherlands (top 300), England/Wales (top 100), Denmark (top 20), Croatia (#97), Chile (#5), Canada (top 100), Austria (top 10), Australia (top 100).
I hate to be THAT person, but you find out the sex on Monday, not the gender.
Anyway, it's a nice name, a little popular (or at least it's one of those names everyone says they want to use, even if they don't). But I don't think any good nns come from it. Seb? Bastian? No. And with a name that long, you need something you can call when you want to get his attention.
Re: Hello and what do you think of Sebastian?
I like Sullivan (Sully), or Solomon better though.
It's one of the only names my fiance and I can agree on, so it like it!

I said this exact thing when my mother brought up Sebastian the other day.
This. Probably because it's one of my DDs favorite movies. I much prefer Sebastian to Aiden/Caden/Brayden/Jayden though.

I love it!
Though the IRL Sebastian I know is a Haitian thug that DH sometimes works with, I still love the name.
I like it -- it was my grandfather's name.
Being honest, it feels like people are trying too hard to be different. And, I keep thinking of Ryan Phillippe's character in Cruel Intentions.
This. I feel like this name is trying too hard.
I have to agree that this is what I think of every time I hear it as well. I also just don't like the name in general, to be honest.
I sorta like it, but it's kind of a guilty pleasure name for me, not sure I would ever actually use it. Altho that was Ryan Philippe's name in Cruel Intentions and he is dead sexy!
love it love it love it. wish I could talk my DH into it.
