Seriously. Worse than when they were newborns, worse than when they've been sick, worse than any other night we've had with them - specifically with my sweet Will.
He simply would not sleep. He'd nap for an hour, then scream - and I mean SCREAM, that kind where there are about 2-3 seconds between noises because they're out of breath - for about 2-3 hours. I think in the 12 hours he was in bed, he only slept about 4 or 5 of them.
We tried bottles, removing layers of clothing, adding layers of clothing, patting him, rocking him, shushing him, changing him, teething gel, baby Tylenol...I even stripped him down and examined him to see if he'd gotten a spider bite or something. I don't think he had heartburn, and although at first we thought maybe it was bad gas, eventually we nixed that idea as well. Eventually I came to the conclusion that although there probably was something wrong initially (a bad cramp or whatever), he just got to the point where he was too exhausted and upset to go to sleep and it created a horrible cycle.
At one stage, the shrieking woke Dash up (he miraculously managed to sleep through most of it), and he stood up to see what was happening...then fell down because he was all sleepy and dopey and whacked his head on the crib rail. Two screaming babies!
This morning I managed to soothe Will to sleep for about 1.5 hours by holding and rocking him while Dash had breakfast and played, and then put them down for their nap at the regular time. Will was a tad feverish (not sure if it's actual sickness or just getting overheated from exhaustion, which happens to me) so I gave him some baby Tylenol and he dropped off to sleep without a fight, thankfully.
I'm beyond tired right now. I'm drinking strong coffee and just hoping they'll have long naps today (we're about an hour into their morning nap).

He was sick a couple of weeks ago, but not recently. He seems OK today other than just residual tiredness and being clingy (presumably because he's so exhausted and wants comfort). If it happens again tonight (or even this afternoon) though, I'm definitely taking him to the doctor. I don't want to be one of those "omg my baby is crying, head to the doc!" parents, but this was VERY unusual behavior for him.
Yup, I'm sure if you just trust your gut feeling, it'll be right. B/c for me, I had a strong gut feeling where I KNEW he had an ear infection (esp with his high fever he had 4 days prior) and he NEVER fussed like that before. So yeah, if you're at all concerned after tonight, I'd take him in. Hope he's okay!

You know it's funny, sometimes the tiniest sound will wake the other one up and other times they can sleep through screaming (mostly, anyway - I don't think he slept as deeply as usual, but he did sleep). It might be different for non-twins though, since they didn't hear the other baby crying from day one and it's not a sound they're familiar with and can tune out?
Will seems OK this afternoon - he still has a light fever, but otherwise seems fine. A bit tired and clingy, but no screaming, he's laughing and playing, eating and drinking, etc. I really have no idea what was going on last night! If he still has the fever tomorrow I might take him to the doctor anyway since by then it will have lasted about 2 days...but for now I'm just giving him some baby Tylenol and hoping for the best. I feel really helpless!
Wow, that sounds terrible (and completely terrifying to me - HOW am I supposed to do this and be responsible for a little PERSON come August..?!). Hope you got a better night's sleep and everything is okay with the little guys!
