Stretch Marks?

I'm wondering if rubbing oil on my belly is really going to keep me from getting stretch marks. The lady from CSI Miami does a commercial for BioOil (or was it Palmers) and she claims it does work so it must. haha.

Does anyone have a preference? BioOil? Palmers?

  • I hate to tell ya, but there is NOTHING you can do to prevent stretch marks. They are hereditary. However, you can use oil, lotions, balms, butters, etc. to lessen the appearance of them. I use Palmer's Cocoa Butter Belly Rub and I also use Palmer's Cocoa Butter Body Oil. Both are fantastic. Just try to keep your body hydrated and "lotioned" up to lessen their appearance.
  • I don't think you can prevent them, but I think you can help them look better afterward. I oiled and used a drugstore cream as I got smaller and I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. They're not completely gone but I can wear a bathing suit. And in the beginning I looked like I had been mauled by a tiger.

This is a good comparison........ Yeah, nothing is going to prevent them..

  • I used BioOil when I got my breast augmentation.

And I ended up with some stretch marks and acne on my chest from the oil. Lovely! I think it did help with the itch tho.

  • I used BioOil every day last pregnancy, and I'm all marked up.

  • Like all the PP's said, it doesn't matter what you use, if your body is hardwired to get them you will.

My dad tried telling me he doesn't think stretch marks will be a problem for me, but I've got them all on my boobs, thights, butt/hips from just normal weight gain/loss. Pregnancy is sure to wreck my belly skin lol.

My neighbor swears by Bath & Body Works "Lay it on thick" body butter. I'm using that just because I like how it smells. I'm not a fan of cocoa butter.

  • Thank you ladies!!! That is good info. I would have been pissed if I hadn't been warned I might look like I've been attacked by jungle creatures with or without the oil!! But knowing this upfront is good. I'm going to use it, I'm just not going to have high expectations!
