Car question for those with 3 kids

With a 3 year old and a set of infant twins, I need a car that can hold 2 rearfacing seats, and once forward facing seat.  I'm looking for something wtih good gas mileage, but that will be safe for all the kids.

Is a minivan my only option, or could I get a crossover/suv?  For those of you with 3, what kind of car do you drive?

  • We have a CRV right now and it fits all the carseats in the back, but no extra space for groceries, ect. with the stroller in the back. We are getting a minivan this week.

  • I have a Chrysler Town and Country and LOVE it!

  • I promise you, you will love a mini-van.  3 car seats and still a ton of room.  If we are on a long trip I can even get to someone in the back if I have to.

  • We have a GMC Acadia, and have all three kids in the second row. We usually keep the third row folded down and have plenty of room for strollers/groceries/etc. I'm just not a minivan girl.

Oh, I forgot to mention this when I posted on the Parenting board...one of the things I love the most about my van other than the room is the power sliding doors and power hatch.  LOVE IT!  So very convenient when you have your hands full with 3 little ones.
  • With infants, a mini-van is most convenient IMO.  Now that my kids are older we have moved to a Surburban.  Getting in and out with ease and plenty of room for "stuff" are key with multiple kids!

  • We traded our jeep in for a minivan.  Cannot beat having power doors!  When we travel to visit family we are still busting at the seams!
  • We are buying a Honda Odyessy, pick it up tomorrow. We did a ton of research and tried out many different crossovers and SUVs and found that if we went with anything other than an minivan, we wouldn't have room for anything else. Also, many of the crossovers, even with 3 rows didn't fit the carseats well, especially if you are going to have anyone sit in the passenger seat.  I was so against a minivan, but think it will be the easiest for 3 kids under 3.  Good luck!

  • We'll be joining the Minivan Mafia within the next week or so as well. We're looking at a 2008 Town & Country Touring. With a 4 year old and newborn twins, I really think it is our best bet. It will allow us to put the twins in the second row, our son in the third row and fold down part of the third row when we need to carry more stuff (stroller and groceries, etc).
