MIL vent.

So, The last place hubby and I lived, it included a Washer and Dryer... So, MIL offered to let us keep ours in her garage until we needed it again. (She lives in a house with a 4 car garage... all by herself, so she has MORE then enough room for an extra washer and dryer...) When hubby and I found out we were expecting, we decided to move into a cheaper place, so that we could save money and buy a house before LO's 1st bday...

The place we are in now didnt have a washer and dryer installed. No biggie, since we have a 3 year old set at MIL's house..

Well, when we called her up to tell her we would be coming by to pick it up... her response? "Oh, I gave it away to my friend... because she didnt have a set at her beach house, and it was a pain for her to bring her dirty clothes back to her reg  house to do laundry." Ummm.... Im so dead serious. First of all, if you can afford a house on the beach, why cant you afford a washer/dryer.. and second, her beach house is 30 minute from her reg house! Its not like she had to TRAVEL! WTF! AND whyyyyyyy was it okay for MIL to GIVE away OUR washer and dryer?

So, needless to say... DH went nuts on her (his was a few month ago), so she went out and bought us a "new" set. I wasnt here when it was delivered.. and when i came home and saw it, I was LIVID. It was at LEAST 5 years older then the set she gave away... and rusted. Used, and purchased for $200 on Craigslist. Our set was worth $600.. USED!

Well, now.. I have a newborn, constantly doing laundry.... and what happens? The peice of Sh!t washer BREAKS! And MIL? Says its not her problem...

Hubby and I are super broke right now. Hes contracted jobs that work for large sporting events... And due to LO arriving the Friday before superbowl, DH couldnt go to Dallas to work it.... there for... cutting our yearly income by 25%!

DH thinks I have no reason to be mad at his mom. Please tell me Im not crazy!

Re: MIL vent.

  • She has a financial obligation to get you a washer and dryer set of equal value to what she gave away. Your DH NEEDS to tell her this. The crap she gave to your is not okay. She GAVE away your GOOD stuff to a friend who didn't need it. He needs to tell her either SHE goes to her friend and gets the set back, or she buys you a new one. Either way, she IS responsible for this. How does she have the balls to buy you a crappy set and tell you it's not her fault when it dies?

    Not okay.

  • you're not crazy. you're totally right. DH needs to step up and demand an appropriate replacement not crap. And MIL needs to learn to ask before she gives other people's stuff away.

ditto this.  although not just equal value, it needs to be equal quality.

  • OMG I would kick her a$$. That is terrible!! Your H needs to have his mother drive to that person's beach house and deliver that washer and dryer to your place or fork over cash to buy a set asap. Ugh!
