1st Trimester

How many calories are you consuming?

I know that you are not supposed to diet or lose weight when pregnant..and I am not..but I have always tracked my food and I am still tracking it now (to the best of my ability anways). I am not sure how much to be eating! I am more hungry than I was...and know I need to eat a little bit more. I workout at least 3 times a week (usually more). I am 5 foot 5 inches and weigh about 160lb (usually a little less). I found a calorie calculator for pregnant women, and with working out 3x week it says during the first trimester I need 2098 calories a day? Do you think this is accurate? I am used to 1500 on most days, some days it might be 1800 depending on my workout....I have been taking in between 1800-2000 and am worried its too much. I have seriously upped my skim milk and fruit consumption...but I still have some days where I just want a burger and fries.

Anybody else know how many they are consuming? The calculator changes it for 2nd and 3rd trimester to 2298 and 2488.

The website is https://www.freedieting.com/tools/pregnancy_calorie_calculator.htm

Thanks!

Re: How many calories are you consuming?

  • I don't know how many calories I'm consuming, but I'm pretty much just eating the same as before, but adding in breakfast.  I porked out in my first pregnancy because I ate whatever, whenever, and am determined not to do that again.

  • My dr has me on a 2200 calorie a day diet. That's what he puts his diabetic patients on, since I'm insulin resistant and am off my meds he requested I follow that diet.

  • I am trying to eat the same but add in breakfast. I was never big into breakfast but trying to eat yogurt everyday for the calcium too. I am not going crazy but I do not want to blow up either....
  • I am eating about the same 1500-1800 calories.  I used to work out about 3-4 days per week until the nausea kicked in.  The calories you consume should stay about the same during first trimester.  However, I have gone over some days because like you I crave a burger and fries. :-)  I read you should add an extra 300 calories per day during 2nd and 3rd trimester.  I really don't want to gain over 25 pounds for my height and weight but it seems like everyone I know gains approximately 40 pounds.
  • I know..I would like be around 25 lbs too....the problem I have run into is being nauseas all the time requires eating more often...so I have to reach myself to eat smaller meals...and I work late so I am working until midnite and I get up by 8 every morning...so long days to fill in with food + nasuea. I think I will try to stick to a solid 1800 a day and workouts most days of the week......

  • Honestly I haven't been keeping track at all. My doctor told me to eat 300 more calories a day then I usually do...so I now eat a yogurt with fresh berries and some extra snacks (healthy snacks) here and there.

  • My Dr said 2400 calories, I was used to 1200 (for weight loss)!  This is a major change, right?

  • I was doing weight watchers when I got PR and havn't changed my diet.  I'm eating 3 healthy meals a day plus 2 snacks of fruit.  I am comfortable with what I am consuming.  I will increase my calorie intake in the second tri but there is no reason that I need to eat that much more to nurish my appleseed baby.  I am currently about 15lbs over weight and would like to gain about 20 pounds during the entire PR, none in the first tri, 8 in the second tri, and 12 in the third tri.  We will see if this works.  I havn't been to the dr yet, but everything I've read says that overweight women should gain no more then 15-20 lbs.

  • I've always been a grazer but never a calorie counter. I eat when I'm hungry. I stop when I'm full. It used to be fairly healthy food but this little baby loves carbs and hates vegetables. So I'm getting a little thicker than I used to be already but I'm not too worried about it, yet.

  • I am consuming about 2200 or so calories a day, which is about 400 more than I usually would since I am eating a lot more snacks. So far no weight gain though, so I must be burning all the extra calories off!
