Anyone counting calories?

I realized if I went by my husband's, "Just do it!  You're pregnant" mentality whenever I had a craving, I could end up gaining 50 plus pounds.  On my 5'2" frame, that would be a BIG DEAL.  I started using Sparkpeople just to get an idea of where I am at with my day's eating.

If you are paying attention to your intake, what is your range you're trying to stick to?

Re: Anyone counting calories?

  • I use Daily Burn.  I entered my weight and told it that I wanted to remain the same weight and it gave me a range of I think 1800-2000.  You can also figure out your BMR and add the extra 300/day that you get while pregnant.  My mw advised me to avoid gaining more than 25 lbs so and to utilize the Gestational Diabetes diet to keep me on track.

  • I am an avid Weight Watchers person and lost 80+ pounds within the last few years so I am SO nervous about weight gain and being healthy esp. since I have a heart problem. That being said I have been using babyfit.com; which is powered by SparkPeople, which I also love! Babyfit gives you a whole profile and calorie range based on pre-preg. weight and what your Doc. recommended you to gain. I am a larger athletic person to begin with, so my Doc. said for me to gain between 20-25 but to focus on the gain primarily in the 2nd and 3rd tris, so I have just been eating around 1500-2000 calories right now and will up that once I talk to my Dcotor again @ my 2nd appointment. "What to Expect..." also has  an Eating Well book that has been very helpful as far as guidelines go! Hope this long post helps Stick out tongue

  • My midwife told me 2200-2400 now, and 2500-2600 in 3rd tri. I'm fairly active, and pre-pg was at 1800-1900 for maintenance.

  • I've actually been losing weight so I'm not counting calories just yet. Once I start to see things even out I'll start.

This is exactly the same for me.  I wear a FitBit that tracks all of my calorie output and has a website where I enter food intake as well.  It is fantastic!

  • I used to track everything religiously. Once I got a handle on what I needed to eat to maintain the right amount of calories per day, I just stuck to it and stopped entering everything online.

My Dr. told me not to add calories until the 2nd Tri so I've been eating my normal portions and indulging here and there. So far, so good!

  • I am, but more-so to make sure I am eating enough. Normally I eat in the 1500 range so am trying to eat around 1800 now. I don't write it down, I just count in my head throughout the day.
