  • I don't have an answer to any of this. If you can't take dramamine, go see if you can find some Sea Bands at the store. A lot of people swear by them.

I don't think the metal detectors will hurt, but if your airport does the full body xray scans you might need to avoid that and have them just wand you or something.

    Good luck!

  • Metal detectors are 100% safe.

But if you don't want to do it, you can talk to the TSO and ask for a patdown instead.

  • The metal detectors are fine.

There are two different types of scanners. Milimeter wave and backscatter. There is a lot of controversy about the backscatter scanners and given that thyroid issue run in my family I don't go through that one pregnant or not. Anyway, I probably wouldn't go through the milimeter scanner either, just to be safe. I have opted out before it didn't take much additional time.

But I think both of them have been certified "safe" so really whatever you feel comfortable with.

  • I called my primary care physician about Dramamine because I have been getting carsick on my morning commute. His exact words were, "not the worst thing, but not the best idea." and he prescribed me zofran. The pressure bands I have found to work initially, but as the day wears on, they work better if I take them off for a few minutes and then put them back on. I have no knowledge of airport scanner safety.
  • Dramamine was on my list of "OK"s that the doctor gave me last week. I was relieved to hear this as I will be flying in the 2nd tri and can't survive without it!!

  • During my first pregnancy I asked, and Dramamine was a no (as is Pepto).

Metal detectors are fine. If you're really concerned, tell them you're pregnant and prefer a pat down.

  • I fly quite a bit for work so I was worried about the scanners at the airport.  Everything I've read says they are fine, the radiation is very minimal.  You will auctually be subject to much more radiation on the acutual flight from being so high in the atmosphere.

Research shows that Flight Attendents who log above average hours (for a flight attendent) have a slightly higher rate of misscarage.

  • You can use it.  My doctor had it on my good list of medications to take!!  :)
