Cincinnati Babies

Babies and sunscreen

Quick question for you ladies. We are going to Scottsdale, Az next weekend and bringing Charlotte along with us. It's a reward trip for sales performance and there are some outside company-sponsored events that we have to attend. Also we were thinking we would probably do some pool time and maybe hit up a spring training game if the weather is nice.

My question is, what do I do about Charlotte and sun protection if we can't always have shade - like at the baseball game?

Is 2 1/2 months too early for baby sunscreen?

Re: Babies and sunscreen

  • This is what we use. Our doctor in Seattle said that while it's preferable to not use any, if you need to - this was a good one. Obviously it's better to use it if they will be in the sun. Some of them have a lot of chemicals, but I guess this is zinc oxide based (which is what's in desitin). I would definitely say to use it if you'll be in the sun :)

ETA: This is a "sunblock", not a "sunscreen" - and is the short list of those recommended :)

  • You might want to call your pedi... Ours told us no sunscreen until 6 months. There's a really good post from a skin care Dr I used to have... About the difference between sunblock vs. sunscreen and which one is better... Also the only brands she recommended was Blue Lizard and California Baby. Let me see if I can find it...

  • Thanks! I'll lob a call into the pedi too, but that is really helpful.

  • Ours said none until 6 months. She got heat rash the first time she wore sunblock and we thought she was allergic to it. We use the kind that Jess posted.
  • Our pedi definitely said no sunscreen that early.  I would just do long sleeve onsies/pants/socks/sun hat.  You could also take an umbrella with you for shade.
