~Worms, can I ask you questions?~

First, I hope it is ok for me to post on this board.

Second, if you don't want to talk about it, tell me STFU and that is fine.

After any of you m/c were you able to test the placenta?  I am not sure if we were able to do that because I gave birth or what the situation needs to be.  I just ask because because they found a lot of blood clot issues with my babies placentas' and that stood out to me in your second opinion post.  I wonder if I should call them and make a consult to see if there is something I should do differently or other things I might need to be tested for that my RE didn't cover, though I thought I had been tested for many different things, maybe he missed something important...I want to make sure I have all the facts before considering trying again.

Anyhow, thanks, and like I said if you don't want to talk about anything to do with your m/c (s) I totally understand.

Re: ~Worms, can I ask you questions?~

  • of course you can post here and i have no problem talking about m/c, i will help in any way i can

with first m/c i m/c baby #1 in middle of 6th week after a huge, spontaneous bleed and then when we went back for follow up u/s in 7th week baby #2 hb had stopped.  i m/c naturally and had a D&C at 10 weeks when my betas kept rising.  they removed tissue and tested it but it wasn't baby :(

with this past m/c i had huge, spontaneous bleed again and m/c naturally so no testing.

with me it was all the bleeding that gave my RE concern.

i also have a clotting disorder but Dr. B thinks my bleeding tendency is combating it and i don't need any blood thinners.

do you have a clotting disorder?  were you on lovenox or baby aspirin during pregnancy?

It's been a long journey. TTC since 9/06. multiple IUI's and IVF's and 4 m/c's. IVF#3 = BFP, twins, induced at 34w6d due to baby b passing away (no explanation). Delivered on 35w1d, Baby A - baby girl, and Baby B - baby boy, our little angel.

  • I have the same hetero form of MTHFR that you have...I also have a mild form of aplastic anemia that I was diagnosed with long before TTC and have a hematologist for but my blood levels have been back in normal range (my red blood cell and platelets dropped dangerously low while in college) but those were monitored every two weeks while I was pregnant and the only thing that happened that when I was admitted to the hospital my white cell count was elevated and continued to climb.

RE thinks MTHFR should be treated with heparin, hematologist is indifferent about the effects of MTHFR in pregnancy and my MFM was very much against keeping me on that and the baby aspirin and took me off at 9 weeks when I ended up in the ER bleeding excessively and passed a huge clot.

So I get different opinions from other doctors.  I just wondering if there are other clotting factors that my RE didn't test for though he has a big advocate of autoimmune playing a huge role in the success of IVF and the success of a pregnancy and I thought he required every test under the sun.  I will have to go back and look at my records.

My MFM just believes my late loss was a combination of a lot of rare things going wrong all at the same time and therefore the chance of them all happening again should be low.  The fibroid obviously isn't autoimmune but I wonder if the cervix issues and placenta issues are all due to clotting factors.

Uggghhh it is just so much to think about...

Thank you so much for your response and for sharing so much about your visits, it def. helps me.

  • I really hope you can get to bottom of all this.

FWIW - Dr. B said he doesn't buy too much into MTHFR's but it really depends on patient and other issues.

He also mentioned he's more inclined to use lovenox over baby aspirin because of the way it affects the blood and causes a bleed.

So, maybe you could just be on lovenox?

If you can I would do phone consult with Dr. B, he is so knowledgeable.  It seems like he really enjoys looking at all the pieces and solving the puzzle that is RPL and IF.

He also created his own immune testing panel, so it's more thorough than what most Dr's do.

    ((HUGS))

I so wish this were easier cutie

  • My RE has a preference of heparin vs. lovenox but I don't remember exactly what the reasoning was...my MFM also thought the baby aspirin was a bigger problem than the heparin.

I wish it were easier for all the ladies on this board...

Did you pay for the phone consult?  I wonder if my insurance would cover the immune testing panel.  The paid for all the others I had done except two. I only have diagnostic coverage for IF and want to make the most of that since everything else is OOP.

    Thanks again hon.
