Special Needs

Ciaram22

I'm from WA too and used to be on our local board.

I wanted to say hi and that I'm sorry your family is being faced with this challenge. I was wondering if Eastside Maternal Fetal Medicine picked up your son's cleft. The reason I ask is, I had about 6 ultrasounds there and never once was it picked up for my daughter. Granted, her cleft doesn't affect the primary palate (lips, gums/teeth) but it seems with so many looks in there, they ought to have seen SOMETHING - especially when I specifically asked which was weird because the thought never entered my mind until the split second when I asked it at EMFM...

HUGS to you and yours

Re: Ciaram22

  • I actually live on the west side and the doctors at The Doctor's Clinic in Silverdale saw it. They sent us over to UW to have more ultrasounds and determine the extent of the cleft. They still aren't 100% positive that the palate is affected but they have told us that more likely than not it will be and it's better to just prepare ourselves for the fact that it will be because then we will be better prepared. So I have just trained myself to believe that it is there and not think about it any other way until after he is born.

Thanks for the well wishes. We have great families and friends that are helping get us through this. It is still very hard at times to think that there are going to be times that he will be in pain that I won't be able to do anything about it but try to comfort him. But no matter what he is going to be a very handsome loved little boy.
