Because of our previous m/c, doctor is letting us come in early or wait for 8 weeks. I'm nervous about going at 6 or 7 and not hearing it just because it's too early. What were your experiences? And did anyone not hear it at 6 and hear it later?
edit: Yes, I know you can't hear it that early... did you see it? Sorry.
Re: POLL: If you heard the 1st hb at or before 8 weeks

Having "Special Snowflake" as an option almost made me want to lie and vote for that. I will admit it was extremely difficult for me to honestly put in the 6 week answer.
/sigh
Lost opportunities.
Regarding your U/S, you may hear it early and you may not. Personally, I wouldn't trade anything for the moment they confirmed I had a little blueberry in there by showing me that tiny flicker.
You can't hear the heart beat then. The u/s machine mimics the sound. But you can't usually hear heartbeat until 9-12 weeks on dopplar. You can SEE heartbeat around 6w.
I saw DD's heartbeat at 5w6d.
At 6w3d we heard DS's heartbeat on his u/s that was done with the abdomen. It was 118. I kind of freaked because his heart rate was low, but his heart had just started beating which was why it was low.
I would say wait until 7 weeks to go in. Sometimes you can be off with your dates and if you go in at 6 weeks, but you really aren't quite 6 weeks, you may not hear the HB. If you go in at 7 weeks and aren't quite 7 weeks, you should still see a HB.
My SIL went in at 6 weeks but it turned out that she was only measuring 5 weeks and they could only see the sac. She had to wait two weeks, but when she went in that second time she was right on track 7 weeks, HB, etc.
GL!
Exactly this. Many Drs wont even try to use the doppler until 10-12 weeks. We saw DD's at 6 weeks; heard it at 10 weeks. I don't have an appt until almost 10 weeks with this one.
From a nurse's point of view.
You cannot hear an Ultrasound heartbeat at 6 weeks, but you may be able to see it. They can mimic the noise to count the beats. Most OB's like to wait until a little later unless they have a concern. I would wait until at least 8 weeks. Some good OBs can use the Doppler at 8 weeks and hear it! I played around today with a Doppler and 7 weeks and no luck...but I didnt think I was going to hear it anyway.
This. I saw mine at 8 wks.
