Tummy filling ideas?

Hi all,

Does anyone give their LO a larger meal right before bedtime to keep their tummy full all night?  And ideas on good "tummy filling" foods to give the LOs right before bedtime?

S must be going through a growth spurt because she is waking up hungry twice during the night, which is unusal for her.  She eats dinner usually at 4:30, a bottle at 6:00 and she is usually in bed by 7.

Re: Tummy filling ideas?

  • I would try to adjust her dinner time rather than what she is eating. How about a later snack and a later dinner? Sydney has a snack around 4:00, dinner around 6:00 and then bed around 7:30. We still give her a bottle before going down - cows milk - around 7:15. I think that helps with feeling a little full too. As far as a filling meal... Pasta is always a good choice. Sydney's favorite dinner is chicken parm with penne. She eats it at least twice a week.

I agree with Dana.  Try giving her dinner a little later.  Thomas has a snack at 5:30; dinner at 7:00; and a bed time bottle around 8:30.

  • I agree with later dinner. Sarah has dinner at 6 and a sippy with milk right before she goes to sleep at 7. The only thing she'll eat right now is pasta so that's what she gets every day.

  • Farina right before bed is a good tummy filler.

I recommend feeding her later and moving her bedtime to a bit later.

  • Fiona was doing this as well. We actually give her some Earth's Best oatmeal or multi-grain cereal before bedtime. We eat dinner between 5:30 - 6:00 and she goes to bed around 8, so a little cereal keeps her full until she wake up around 7-7:30.

Hi Stever, for some reason she is STARVING at 4:30.  I usually pick her up at daycare at 4:00 and they are eating a snack.  I wait until she is done and then we head home.  We walk in the door and she is promptly wanting something to eat.  We've been doing pasta or a sandwich or something quick as she tends to melt down if I wait to make her something.

  • Thanks ladies - I didn't think about switching to a snack first and then dinner (such a simple idea Embarrassed).  She is always starving at 4:30, so I promptly thought of giving her something filling to tide her over a bit.

I'll try switching the two meals and see if it helps.  Thanks for the help - I swear I used to be smart before this lack of sleep thing got to me.
