Nap Nazis Q for you

since the boys were born at 34.5 would you say their waketime should go off of their adjusted age?

This is probably a dumb Q cause I can kinda tell im doing too much with them after they eat cause once they get tired its like WWII. I am starting to do things with them for about 45 minutes after they eat and then put them down (which makes total wake time 1 hr 15 mins.)

  • Mine were 32w 6d - and I'm kinda going off their cues. We do bottles, relax for 15 minutes in our boppys (read a book usually) and then 15-30 minutes of activity(tummy time/activity mat). But today, they ate and then fell asleep during their relax time so I didn't push it. Its so hard to know what to do re: adjusted age vs actual age, so I think following their cues is the best bet.

  • Mine were full term (37w 1d) and at 3 months, I was still only getting 75-90 minutes of awake time from them.  Even at 4 months old (today!) we rarely make it to the 2 hour mark.

I usually just watch their sleepy cues and go off of that, with 2 hours as a time limit.  So if I wake them at 9:30 for their first bottle, we'll do tummy time while the bottles heat, eat, get dressed and play, and they are usually both down by 11.

  • Mine were 33w4d, and absolutely went by adjusted age at that point.  They didn't even start sttn until 13/14wks.

We kept them pretty mellow right after eating due to reflux, and also we were not on an EASY sched.  They often ate soon before sleeping.

Try just moving wakeful time around.  Keep in mind they are constantly changing, so just when you've got it figured out, they'll be on to the next phase... which is a good thing!

My boys definitely go by their adjusted age for waketimes. Then again, I never had a target for them at that age. It took a while for me to figure out their cues, but when I did they went down for a nap whenever they got sleepy. If I didn't do that then it was like you said - WWII-esque.

  • We definitely go by adjusted age.  Actually, we go by adjusted age for a lot of things....that is the age I think of them as.

  • Dont worry about age, go with what works! At five months my babies ideal waketime is still only 1.5 hours and they werent early. I wish they could stay awake longer but it will come in time im sure.
