Underestimating DH as a parent

Those of you who already have children; do you ever feel like your DH/SO is a better parent when you're not around?

I totally have faith in my DH to take care of our two kids when I'm not there. When I am around I feel like I have to remind him to do certain things that should just be automatically in his head.  You know, like change diapers or don't forget to put a jacket on the kids because it is chilly outside.

  • I don't have this problem. If anything it's the opposite. He thinks I don't live up to his parenting expectations.

  • Oh totally. When I'm around I think he assumes I'll take care of everything so his brain turns off. He seems to remember things just fine if I'm out on travel or something. My girlfriends have the same issue. I think this is normal :)
