This baby is not going to have a name!

With DS we had trouble coming up with a boys name we liked but by this point we had 2 that we were happy with and had decided to go with Martijn if it was a boy as long as it felt right when he was out.

Well we are team green again and are having trouble with a boys name again! I thought that we had it narrowed down to 2 but after yesterday it appears we are nameless again. grr.

So we had decided on Thys Ruben with Sebastian Eli as an alternative. But now I'm not sure about Thys since Thijs (same pronunciation different spelling) was #9 on the list of most popular boys names here last year. There do seem to be quite a few around. I don't want him to be Thys V. all of his life kwim. So then I was thinking we would go with Sebastian but now DH doesn't like Eli and wants to pronounce Sebastian like the similar dutch name Sebastiaan which I hate! So I guess that is out too! Oh and now he says the baby has to have a Dutch name not an English (or other) name. Sad

I don't know what to do. I can't come up with any other names that I like especially if he is going to limit it like that and people in the states and here have to be able to pronounce it. We really do like Thys Ruben. So do we just not worry about him maybe being 1 of the so many in his class maybe? I don't know what to do. Maybe I just need to pray it is a girl Stick out tongue

Sorry this got so long.

  • You're not alone!!  If we have 2 boys, one will probably be nameless for awhile. We have looked through several books, lots of websites and still can't come up with a second boys name that we both love.  We do have a couple that we like, but they don't compare with the one we have picked for sure.

We do really well when it comes to agreeing on girl names though! We have our top choice and at least 3 others that we would be happy with.

We had Anika (spelling TBD, but my great aunt was Aniko, so we'd probably spell it this way) picked out for a girl name, but of course we're having a boy.  I love the name Kolja but was hesitant to actually use it for a child's name, since it sounds a little feminine for where we live (not that I care, but I foresee him being picked on).  DH loves it now, though, so that's what we're going with.  My father was born in Holland (though his family speaks German), but DH's family (at least on his father's side) is of French Canadian descent, so I'm not sure why he likes the Dutch/German names.
