Pregnant after IF

F/U Gestational Sac Size

I *thought* my u/s photo from today showed a gestational sac measurement of 3.18mm which after Googling scared the sh!t out of me b/c it's supposed to be bigger than that obv at 5 weeks. BUT, I came home and it actually says d=3.18cm...which would be like 31mm which isn't right for 5 weeks either. SO, I came to the conclusion that the sac size is not printed on my u/s photo from today. I have no idea what it was, and I think my best bet is to just go by what my RE said today: everything looked great. Can someone please sedate me and wake me up after first tri?

Re: F/U Gestational Sac Size

  • Are you sure the measurement wasn't of the baby? My RE measured the fetus at my first ultrasound and it was 3.1 mm at 5 weeks. And yes that is a normal measurement for that time of gestation.
Beautiful Miracle Baby lost at 21 weeks due to pre-term labor and incompetent cervix. FET#1 BFN, FET#2 BFP, early loss. FET#3 BFN. IVF#2 BFFN. FET #4 BFP after removing bilateral hydrosalpinx and 3 months of lupron depot. Sticky Bun is here!! Image and video hosting by TinyPic Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

  • Hang in there!  I'm trying to convince myself that if my  RE isn't worried, then I'm not going to worry (easier said than done).

Although I'm with you in wanting to be sedated to get through the first few weeks!  I'm googling more now than I ever did (but I think after 2 years, I know IF inside out but never did I look up or learn what to expect when pregnant).

TTC since April 2009 dx = PCOS; TTC History for DS - A FET miracle after 7 IUIs; 2 fresh transfers, and 1 other FET resulted in BFNs. Hoping and Praying for baby #2: Cycle 1 - FET; November 2012 BFN Next Steps - who knows? Lilypie Second Birthday tickers

Maybe that's a normal measurement for the baby at that time (your RE saw the baby at 5 wks?), but it would be small for the sac. It was cm not mm, and we didn't see a fetus yet, so that wasn't it.

  • Yeah, it's so hard to relax when there's the bump and google to go to for information, but just believe in what your doctor says.  I have a hard time with this too so I know how you feel.  ((HUGS))

  • Step away from google!!!!!!!  I think all of us are over educated when it comes to first tri, everyone is different and if your doctor said it's great, then it's great!!

. Yes we could see the fetal pole and yolk sac. It was 5 weeks 5 days though so almost 6 weeks. But I distinctly remember my RE saying that it was the right size. Anyway I'm sure everything is fine with you. Try to hang in there.

It could have just been capturing the setting on the ultrasound wand.  Step away from all the research. It will just drive you crazy.  Trust your RE. It's really the only thing you can do.  I have a good feeling for you on this one!

  • We had a small gestational sac with our last baby whom we lost at 9w6d and this time we had a small gestational sac with Baby B who is doing just fine at 10w4d. But for sure the doctor will TELL you that you have a small sac, and they don't worry unless it's TWO weeks behind the baby. Try to relax - much easier said than done I know, but you have to trust the medical professionals to some point - they brought you this far.
After 2 losses, IVF #2 brought us our little boys.

I'm sorry you are so stressed out.  IF + Loss = total insanity. There's nothing you can do about it.  My technique for getting through the u/s is to just ask if they are happy with the heartbeat and is there anything they are concerned about.  I don't ask anything else...that's enough at this point.

I hope your next ultrasound is smooth sailing.
