Parenting after 35

What products do you use on your face?

Even at 36 I get acne.....it stinks! I also however really need to start an anti aging regimen! I can only imagine what the makeup counter will send me home with.....dry forehead, oily T zone, acne, and wrinkles? haha I need makeup (out with the old), cleaner, lotion, and wrinkle cream....I think!

What do you ladies use and love?

Thanks!

(BTW I lurk a lot.....not a ton of time to sit on the computer these days but I do like to read posts, sorry!)

Re: What products do you use on your face?

  • My mother (thanks mom) bought me oil of olay night time anti-aging mositurizer.  I like it,.  It is not greasy or too thick.

  • I go back and forth between Egyptian Magic(wax-like stuff available at health food stores) when it's really dry out and Carrot Moisturizer from Body Shop - same stuff I've been using since I was 16.
  • I use Paulas Choice. She's the woman who wrote "Don't go to the ocsmetics counter with out me"

I LOVE her products. It takes some reading and research to find the routine that works best for your skin but it's so worth it, good value too. I won't use anything else.

  • Same here, frequent lurker + acne at 36!  I really like Philosophy & Kiehl's products and currently use the Philosophy Purity Foaming Cleanser + Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream at night.  For morning I use the Philosophy Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash + Hope in a Jar.  I will likely switch over to the Philosophy Miracle Worker Anti-Aging Moisturizer when my current supply of Hope in a Jar is gone.

I love both the moisturizers because they are lightweight but really do a great job keeping my skin hydrated but not oily!

  • Proactiv!  Although, I strongly advise you NOT to sign up with Proactiv- the customer service is awful!  Buy them from another site like QVC or the mall.

I also mix jojoba oil in w/ my oil-free moistuizer.  It hydrates and prevents pimples at the same time.

  • I use philosophy and I swear by it. I will never use anything else. To be specific I use purity made simple cleanser and hope in a jar moisturizer everyday. My skin is in great shape becaus of their line.

  • Aside from SPF30 in the morning, nothing. Isn't that awful? My face is going to look like rawhide by the time I'm 50. I really should take care of my skin. I'm so dog-tired at night. I don't take the time to cleanse/moisturize and I know I should.

I'm so thrilled to see someone else out there knows of Paula Beguon.  Definitely check out her book which provides reviews on all the products out there.  You can also find reviews on her web page(membership required)  As for her brand...I love her skin care line, but her make up and hair care products don't work for me.

You can check her out on...

  • Here are products that I have liked and would buy again  (I have tried a lot, both expensive and cheap)

Shiseido  The Skincare Cleansing Foam (white tube)

Paulas choice cleansers and AHA /BHA products

Thayers Witch Hazel Rose Water toner

Up and Up (Target) brand sunscreen comparable to Neutragena Ultra Sheer SPF 70

Right now, I am using the Obagi Nu Derm line now and it has been about 2 months. There are cycles of yucky peeling skin and redness.  but overall I have definitely noticed a difference for the good.  It is supposed to be used continuously for 4 months, then every 3rd day thereafter.

I am also using a C serum  (antioxidant).  I plan to always use one from now on.

I am also using retin A, and will use this forever too.

Same exact holds true for me.

I was using this before I found out I was pregnant last year. It worked very well. Now I use Hope in a Jar and Ren products (Omega 3 for overnight and day cream daily and pore minimising detox mask as needed).

  • Lately I've been using the Burt's Bees acne products (because at nearly 41, I STILL break out).  I used Proactiv forever... but I hate how the benzoyl peroxide bleaches all my linens. It works VERY well, however.  If you don't use too much, it doesn't dry your skin out and your skin looks great.

Acne is the main reason why I didn't switch to Mirena (IUD) for birth control and am still taking pills (LoestrinFe24). I am so sensitive about my skin. I actually took Accutane in my late 20s to get rid of the cystic acne on my chest, shoulders and back. I have scars from acne.

  • Thanks! I will check some of these out! I tried Proactive in the past, and also had some script stuff that I couldn't use while pregnant.

I think a trip to Ulta is in my future!
