How long did you work??

I am sure it has been asked 1,000,000 times in hear so please forgive me for asking again...

How long did you work with your twin pregnancy?  Or how long do you plan to work?  I wanted to work until 32 weeks or 6 more (including this week) but I am so stinking tired that I feel like there is NO way I am going to make it...

How was it/or is it for you??

Re: How long did you work??

  • my Ob told me at my first appt to expect to leave work between 24-28 weeks, even if all was fine - he didn't want me to risk PTL by working longer... esp b/c my job has me on my feet a lot of the day.

I left work at 27w (no issues)... and really took it easy- and made it to 38w without a problem.  If i had worked much longer I don't think i would have gone as long... being able to sit and rest during the day was key to me - and made me have so many less contrax, etc.

  • I'm a nuclear medicine technologist so my job is quite active.  I had to go on bedrest for PTL at 30w.  I was planning on going part-time at 32 weeks, but I never got to return to work and delivered @ 32w3d when my water broke.  Hang in there!

  • I was put on bed rest at 24 weeks for a shortened cervix, so you have already made it longer than I did.  I am 31 weeks and I can't imagine working at this point (even if my muscles weren't withering away from bed rest).  Best wishes!

  • I'm a teacher, and I worked until 28 weeks when I went into pre-term labor. I was starting to get really uncomfortable right around then as well. Up until 28 weeks though I felt pretty good at work. My good friend taught up until 37 weeks pregnant with twins, so it all depends on the person.

  • 28 weeks I started working from home full time, 32 weeks I went out. 4 weeks later I delivered!

My doctor told me right at the beginning I would really need to slow it down at 28 weeks to avoid PTL.

  • I worked a desk job until I was 30 weeks. I could have easily made it another 2-4 weeks, but the (90+ min round-trip) commute was really starting to wear on me. GL!

ETA: I quit my job to become a SAHM, so I didn't take into consideration the 7 (out of 12) weeks of maternity leave I would have lost.

  • I have a desk job and started working from home at 24 weeks (no complications but was at risk with HBP).  Stopped working completely at 34 weeks (I was sooooo miserable, even working from home).  I had a scheduled c-section at 37 weeks.

  • I worked until about 30 weeks.  I went part-time around 20 weeks or so.  I had a desk job, but it was high-stress (attorney) so even PT became too much.  I made it to my scheduled c-section at 37w 1d with zero signs of labor and I think being able to rest those last few weeks really helped.

  • I worked up until the day before my c-section (at 38 weeks & 3 days)... but I worked the last two weeks of that from home.  I have a job where I'm not on my feet though...

  • I have an office job. I worked to 32 weeks in the office and 2 weeks at home. Babies were born 36w and 1d. There were days that I did not think I would make it to 32 weeks in the office but it ended up being ok. Once my appointments got to be twice a week it was just too much running around and I decided to work from home. Your body will tell you I think - if you're feeling like it's too much then it's time to slow down. Good luck to you.
  • Restricted to desk duty around 24 weeks. Put on bedrest at 27 weeks.

  • I'm a lawyer and I spend most of my day at my desk, so I'm still working at 34 weeks.  I plan to work for about another two weeks, but I've started working about 2 days/week from home.  I've also significantly cut back on my hours in the office.  I'm very uncomfortable right now, so I'm taking it day by day.  My doctor said that as long as I think I can do it, I'm going to be miserable either way, so I might as well be distracted by work.
  • I worked from home 4 days per week starting at about 26 weeks.  I went out of work at 34ish weeks which was about a week before the babies were born.

  • I am more of a lurker but I wanted to reply to your post. I am currently 33 weeks pregnant with twins and still working full time. I have a desk job so I'm not on my feet all day. I still feel pretty good but noticed I am getting a little more tired then normal at work. So I am going to try and start leaving a earlier then I normally would. But I have had a pretty easy pregnancy thus far (knock on wood).

  • I was induced at 38w2d and I worked until the Friday before that. So, something like 37w5d.

However, I work at home. And I started working from my couch, in a reclined position, at something like 32 weeks. Ad I had no commute.

If I had a normal job, I would have been out way sooner.

  • I teach 3rd grade and worked until I was 36 weeks along.  I didn't have any complications and felt pretty good.  Yes, I was tired, but I didnt want to waste much time at home before having the girls.  I was planning on working until 37 weeks but my legs had a lot of swelling and I couldnt really stand after 36 weeks so I stopped working on my own accord.
  • I teach Kindergarten and I'm still working. At my appointment last week, I asked my doctor if I could still try to work until 36 weeks and she said I could work as long as I felt well enough to. Something that is certainly helping is having a Student Teacher right now!  She is fabulous so that has taken a lot of stress off me.
  • I had a desk job and planned to work up till the end if I could.  I ended up on bedrest at 25 weeks due to PTL/shortened cervix.

    It really is a crapshoot.

I will say that around 32 weeks I was tired and very very uncomfortable.  I'm not sure if that is because I had been laying around for 3 months or not.  I did deliver big babies though (7lbs 6oz and 8lbs 4 oz) so I was carrying a large load!

  • I cut back my hours from full-time to part-time(25hrs) around 25 weeks, and will probably cut back my hours to 15-20 hours at 32 weeks. I'm always on my feet at work and it started getting to me, but last week I got support leggings and I feel so much better. I'm doing pre-natal pilates almost every day at home, and take a nap every afternoon to help with the exhaustion. My doctor and midwife both said as long as I'm doing fine they'd like me to stay active, so we'll see how long I can go for. I want to work as long as possible because I walk to work and I can see myself becoming a vegetable if I stay at home... We also live in a teeny apartment, so I would drive myself crazy:)

  • I was put on bed-rest at 26 weeks for PTL.  I remember thinking at 28 weeks that even if I wasn't put on bed-rest I would had to have stopped because I was so uncomfortable.
  • I'm hairstylist so I was on my feet all day long, I wanted to work until 32 weeks but I ended up leaving at 29 weeks due to PTL.

  • i made it to 14 weeks! (go me lol). Im a nurse and work on a very busy unit. I started bleeding everytime i worked and was told i had a friable cervix. After 7 losses i didnt want to take any chances so i was taken out of work for a month. I go back to the OB next week and even though the bleeding has stopped (thank goodness) i now have really bad sciatica and hip pain and im having a hard time walking around for long periods of time. so an 8+ hr shift of running around is just not going to happen! GL to you :)
  • I stopped going to the office around 33-34 weeks but it was my bosses decision I think they were scared I would go into labor there. I worked at home til the day before I delivered finishing up stuff.I did run to the office a few times to pick up things. I only work part time.

  • I'm 32w 1d and going strong at work, BUT I work from home so I sit at a desk all day and don't have to get ready in the morning, get in my car to drive to work, etc.

If I had to drive to work and still sit at a computer I think I would make it at least another few weeks, but with my job being at home I plan on working all the way up until the babies come.

My dr asks me everytime how I'm doing w/work so I'm guessing its pretty common to get MoM's out of work starting at 28w and on depending on the type of job you have

  • I got really sick with the flu at 30 weeks and couldn't keep any fluids down which really dehydrated me. I spent a day in the hospital to get an IV.  Once I saw my doctor, he told me I couldn't go back to work. I had planned on working 2 more weeks. I am so glad he took me out because I went back one day and came home with the fastest feet, ankles I have ever seen.  And you go down hill fast after that. I am so tired and am counting down the days until these girls come out.

  • Started to cut back on the physical aspects of my job around 28 weeks, (sometimes I have to spend 10-hour days standing) working from home some starting at 32 weeks, done with work at 35 weeks.

I worried the whole time that I'd have to go out much earlier, but thanks to great conversations with my bosses, we figured out ways to help me last.  If I hadn't been able to work from home some, I don't think I would have made it as long as I did!
