I'm ADDICTED to this board, so I'm finally posting
Our baby girl's name thus far is Ruby Joy. Ruby because it's traditional, feminine, and not-too-common but not made up and ridiculous sounding/looking. Joy is my mom's name and was picked years prior to TTC Our last name sounds like Malone (two syllables, same last syllable) and her big bro is Tristan Lee. What do you all think? Any other first name suggestions in the same vein that go well with Joy? I think the name is perfect, but we've gotten mixed reviews IRL (three people have said Ruby is a "stripper name"?!) TIA!
Re: Ruby Joy
i don't prefer ruby.
other suggestions: stella, rania (ron-yuh), rochelle, wren.
I like Ruby a lot. My husband won't let me put it on our list because he knows a dog by that name, which is unfortunate.
I usually don't like it when FN are adjectives and MN are nouns, but I think this combinations works. I like it a lot!

I really like it!
One reason I think it goes well as a combo is that both names end in Y, but they don't end in the same sound. So there's continuity, but it's not too matchy-matchy.
It really works in the sibset as well, IMO. Tristan Lee & Ruby Joy are both a 2-1 syllable count! And Tristan and Ruby are just precious together. Both give off a British vibe, which I love.
FWIW, I don't get a stripper vibe from Ruby at all. But if three separate people (in three separate instances) have told you that, it's definitely something I'd consider.
Same.
This. They are too matchy.

Psh, Ruby is NOT a stripper name.
I love Ruby. I think it's gorgeous and underused, a little quirky and old-fashioned, but full of moxy. It's a great name. I know a little red-headed Ruby who is just darling, and I've always thought the name was a perfect fit for her.

This.
But you get the "family name" pass .
TYVM!
I agree with a few of you about it being a little matchy- but for me, this only comes into play when the full name is written out, with the two y's. The sounds are different enough when spoken that I think it's okay. But duly noted. I just really love the little girl I picture in my head when I hear the name Ruby, and Joy has too much meaning to even consider not using it.
I clarified with two from the "stripper" camp, and both of them explained that they meant less stripper and more "wild west saloon owner/ showgirl". If that's the case, I'm okay with it! Because I think what they're picking up on with that description is the sassiness and flirtatiousness of the name, which is one of the things I love about it.
Think I will go ahead and order her personalized bow holder to make it official ;
