tubes tomorrow, any advise ?

So DD is finally getting tubes after i dont know how many ear infections. What should I expect the day to be like? We check in at 6:30am and surgery at 7:30am. I know she cant eat or dring after midnight. The morning is probably going to be a pain when she doesnt get her morning milk. Also, how long are you usually there? What can i expect when she is in recovery and when we get home? Did your LO go back to normal activities/daycare the next day?

  • When my son had them, he was up so much earlier than usual that he never noticed us not feeding him or giving him a drink.  We had a similar schedule and were home by 9 / 9:30.  Recovery was a lot of inconsolable fussing - just from coming out of anesthesia and the disorientation.  He napped once we got home and woke up around lunchtime ready to take on the world.  He went to a swimming birthday party 2 days later.

  • Carter's had two sets and recovery has been so easy. The surgery itself took 5 minutes and he was back to normal almost right away. I took him to the park after his nap even.

  • Check in, surgery only takes 15min.  Recovery can be rough - lots of hysterical disoriented crying going on.  That can take 45min, give or take.  DS slept a lot more that day but was fine and even hearing better on the way home.  Next day he was fine.  No restrictions, no earplugs.  Just some tylenol and 3 days of antibiotic eardrops a few times a day - and lots of ear goo for a couple days.

I think we kept him home the next day, but yeah he was fine.

They can suddenly hear better, loud noises may freak her out for a while.  Good luck :-)
